Feathers and Fins Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 For me half the fun of Hunting is the Dog Work that goes with it. They just add so much to Hunting in general that its hard to imagine doing it without them. I thought I would share a few pics of what i mean. Training time is as much fun as the hunting. Well trained yes but not at all happy with me. 8000 snows and we aint shooting dad are you Crazy.. I know she was thinking that. The next two are just favorites of the two girls just intense as possible on birds They both do the deed on the other greenheads as well https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Justin Spencer Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 I love labs too, but decided to downsize with my current bird dog (boykin spaniel) because I also enjoy taking him canoeing and labs rock the boat a little too much. These dogs are great for hunting out of a boat blind because you can just pull them right back in and can get into deep cover when bird hunting. Takes more work than a lab to get them to "line" as they tend to think they know where the blind retrieve is better than you, but with a little work I have mine doing an ample job of getting to blinds (although not many style points). duckydoty Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 I was introduced to the Boykin last summer in Alaska. That is one little dog with a lot of heart. I was very impressed. I wanna see him wrastle a goose this summer though. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners
Justin Spencer Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 I've never shot a goose over Finn before, would be fun to see if it drowns him or not! Feathers and Fins Posted January 26, 2012 Author Posted January 26, 2012 Justin, i had issues like that with American Labs and their size. My little girl {left with the pheasant} is an English she weighs in at 50lbs and not near the problems of my brothers big male at 90lbs+. English are harder to find but great dogs.. she does well on all birds and loves geese. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856

Here's a few of mine: Stylin' Teamwork: Nobody works harder than the dawgs: They're absolutely one of the biggest reasons I do it. John

Gilly Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 We are dogless right now. Had to put our black lab down last spring. Many years of companionship and one of the smartest dogs I've ever known. Enjoying our 'granddogs' right now, our son's yellow labs. Not certain just when we might start another relationship with a dog again. www.drydock516.com
JohnP Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Awsome pics. If it wasn't for the dogs I probably wouldn't duck hunt. Only lost one bird this year and it was because it had a stronger will to survive then the dawg had at it getting it . Have to say if it wasn't for the dog we'd probably lost about half of what we shot or atleast worn ourselves plumb out chasing them down. Looked into getting a Boyken once until I hunted one. Great lil dog when it came to retrieving and blind manners and everything you'd like to see in a hunting dog until it came time to pick out the cockleburrs  shoulda just shaved her by the time we were done. 4 legged velcro pad . Good dawgs and if I hunted where there no cockleburrs I'd probably have.
