Chief Grey Bear Posted January 28, 2012 Author Posted January 28, 2012 Great looking fish Chief. I was just sitting here wondering how much farther west of your area, a person can catch a native smallmouth. I am pretty much on the very western edge. Once you get about 5 miles into KS or OK, it is highly unlikely to catch them with any regularity. Once you get below Grand Lake dam and any tribs in eastern OK, you are not guaranteed of catching a "native" smallmouth. OK, until just a few years ago, stocked the Northern strain all over eastern OK, But never in Grand Lake or above. I think there are still some waters in SE OK that one may catch some pure strain Ouachita bass. Which I want to do someday. I need to do a little more research first though. I like Friday fotos. Thanks buddy. That is good to hear sometimes. I never know if you guy's ever get bored with it. drew03cmc Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Shoal Creek in SEKS is about the farthest west you can get into a Neosho smallmouth, but no farther. There were smallmouth in the mainstem Neosho River as of 1866, but they had already been stocked in the system in John Redmond. You can catch Neoshos south into Arkansas in tributaries of the Arkansas River, above Grand Lake. Andy
Buzz Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 That's a good one for sure. I look forward each week to see what you show us next. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
