moguy1973 Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 I'll be the owner of an Ocean Kayak Prowler Trident 11T soon and I was looking for a rooftop car rack that would work well. I was wondering what kinds everyone uses and how they like it. I've been looking around at the Thule, Yakima and Inno systems and I'm liking the Inno INA446 locking system, mostly because the price seems right and it has the built in locks where the Thule and Yakima are separate purchases for the locks. This will be going on my Nissan Altima using most likely an Inno base bars and also on my wife's Highlander with the factory bars. jdmidwest Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 I use Thule Hullaports on my factory Toyota racks. I have used Thules in the past on one of my Blazers and liked them. Either Thule or Yakima are good, don't know about the inno. Look into saddles or a carrier like the Hullaports to keep them off the roof paint. Gavin Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Cant go wrong with a Yakima or Thule...dont know about the Inno...but I'm sure it will work too.
Haris122 Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 Hey Moguy, you know of any local stores where one might be able to find those base bars and such. My car also doesn't have any bars and I'd like to set something up on it, but also would like to see what all is involved with doing it, and how the system looks first hand.
Haris122 Posted February 7, 2015 Posted February 7, 2015 Also, anyone have any advice in regards to this item http://www.cabelas.com/product/Boating/Canoes-Kayaks-Small-Boats/Storage-Transportation|/pc/104794380/c/104710680/sc/104608080/Malone-HandiRack8482-Roof-Rack/737541.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fstorage-transportation%2F_%2FN-1100579%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104608080%3FWTz_l%3DSBC%253BMMcat104794380%253Bcat104710680&WTz_l=SBC%3BMMcat104794380%3Bcat104710680%3Bcat104608080 here? If I were to judge from the reviews it seems like it would do fine for what I would use it for. Generally would use it to transport the kayak within an hour's drive from here, but with the occasional 2 hour drive as well. But I don't know what kind of durability it has and I have frequent uses in mind.
moguy1973 Posted February 7, 2015 Author Posted February 7, 2015 Most bike stores sell them. I don't know if i would trust that inflatable thing. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Gavin Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Look at Yakima or Thule racks. They have fit guides on their websites and can direct you to a dealer.
moguy1973 Posted February 8, 2015 Author Posted February 8, 2015 I bought the Inno ones at http://www.orsracksdirect.com They have a fitment guide on their website for all makes of cars. They also sell the Thule and Yakima racks also. I bought Inno ones because of the reason I stated above, they come with the locks so no one can steal the bars where the other brands make you buy them separate. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Haris122 Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 Around how much should I expect to pay for everything? And what would everything entail parts wise? I went ahead and got that inflatable thing. Tried it out, and was nervous at first but I had it secured well. It's not bad, but if I can, I'd rather get something I can feel real comfortable with.
moguy1973 Posted February 8, 2015 Author Posted February 8, 2015 I think with my setup it was right around $300 when I bought it a couple years ago. That was for the bases, bars and the Inno double kayak carrier. Looks like their prices have gone up and my setup would be around $380 if you get it on sale which it is now 20% off all Inno stuff. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
