Table Rock Lake Fishing Report 2-7-12

Neither Buster or I had had the opportunity to throw the rig much in the dam area, so we let fly yesterday morning. Started at 8:30 and fished till about Noon. Surface temp in the dam area at 47.6 with water being very clear. Visibility in the 12 to 15 ft. range. We were both throwing the MESS as Buster calls it. "The A-Rig." As reported in the past, we are probably throwing it a bit deeper than most of you and that may be why our fish are not running quite as big. Very seldom had the boat under 40 ft. and we were at least 2 throws off the bank. Fishing for the most part deep structure and transition and Wintering Stuff. 10 Keepers in the 3.5 hr. trip with a Brownie at just under 5 being our big fish and at least 6 other LM at 4 Plus. One K was for sure pushing that 4 pound figure and that is a big K. That K was just huge. I believe we only had two shorts to go with the 10 keeps. Best 5 at 22 pounds. Buster had 8 of the keeps, but I had the big Brownie and another toad. I guess our best 6 however would have cleared 26 pounds. Just silly. And really we didn't have a Big Kicker Fish. A boat full of 4 pounders is pretty unreal however. Baits do seem to matter on the A-Rig. I started out one way and Buster another. He had me down 6-0 when I switched and got it started. Kind of like James and Donna the other day of the River, with 21 pounds on 5. Our 22 seems to be a slow day """""NOT"""" Who would have believe this kind of fishing Feb. 7th. on anything other than a suspending sticker. Good Luck

hey Bill was wondering what you think the weights will look like in the everstart coming up? I would think 60#'s of bass in 3 days to get in the top 3. Am I giving the rig to much credit or do you think it will be that dominate.

I don't know that one guy can put 20 plus pounds per day together for 3 days. For sure there will be lots of 20 pound bags, just maybe not the same person everyday.

I do believe it will take over between 50-60 to win it. I might be very low, but this is Table Rock.

You guys are killing me. Four more weeks of 5th and 6th grade girls basketball vs. slinging and learning new rigs on my favorite lake...hmmm. I wonder if the whole team would fake an injury for a fistful of ice cream gift certificates.

That's a darn fine day, Bill, and a good report. We're going to continue to learn a lot about this A-rig as the year progresses. We now know that big brown fish will smack it, and those of us who've been hurling it are already well aware of what those big K's will do to it. Yes, a 4-pound K is a tank. I know the popular vote goes to the brown fish, those big K's are my favorite swimmers. Magnificent creatures.

I think we're all developing our favorite attachments for the A-rig. I know that Donna and I have one in particular that's been heads above anything else we've used. Of course, I look for the fish to change their preferences as the seasons change. We'll just have to learn as we go.

Add: Walleye, Hybrids, White and Stripers to the list of things it is deadly to... But im very curious to how affective it will be when the fish start going in shallow in thick cover!

Not sure up here in the north, but I have used it central/SE ark and fared pretty well in the shallows/bank bushes. Its tough day fishing but worth the reward to me. When you use the hollow belly baits TX rigged doesnt seem to hang up as much up shallow.
