Hmm, makes me wonder... How many of these city folk that come to the Niangua every year to float (and party) are gonna be unaware of the rules? Betcha at least some of em will have felt soled sandals (for better traction when drunk)...

Sounds like a cash infusion for the state! We have a saying on the Niangua:

Come on vacation, leave on probation

I don't think any conservation agent in his right mind is going to try to write a ticket for someone wading in tennis shoes, even if it's illegal by the letter of the law. There are few exceptions out there I'm sure, but the CAs I've met are pretty reasonable people, and I don't think they're going to split hairs on this. Clearly the point is to ban felt soles. To go beyond that would just be a good way to get the public angry for no good reason, and the MDC doesn't have a history of doing that.

Then why add the wording into the official law? Why not just leave it as simple as "felt soled wading boots"?

I don't know. But I still say no conservation agent is going to write a ticket for someone wearing tennis shoes in a river. If they did, any judge would just laugh in their face, or at least you'd hope so. Anyway I'm not going to worry about it.

Fish always lose by being "got in and dressed." It is best to weigh them while they are in the water. The only really large one I ever caught got away with my leader when I first struck him. He weighed ten pounds.

I can't believe that of all the dedicated fishermen/hunters that we have here there is not a single MDC agent or employee popping in occasionally that has the sack to assist in questions like this. Are they just reading this stuff, sitting back laughing and having a big ol'time with it like a buncha voyeurs, or are they so unclear/unsecure on it themselves that they are afraid to say anything ?

You can't convince me that none of them ever scope this forum out, cuz if they don't then they pretty much suck at their job. I bet if I posted a pic of a poached spoonbill there'd be an agent on my doorstep within 4 hours. LOL
