riverfish Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 the squarebill crankbait is a very underated bait on this lake by alot of people in the springtime i personally like the 2 to 4 ft running h2o express the knock off of the lucky craft from academy i dont care what anybody says theyre the same thing in the summer/fall i like the bandit and the balsa bee h2o express my favorite color is the diamond dust (american shad) and in the balsa bee/bandit i like the chartreuse shad and the tennesee shad in the summer and fall i like the little wider wobble i get out ob the balsa bee and the bandit in the springtime i like the tighter wobble

Quillback Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 The "Strike King Pro Journal" show featured KVD on Table Rock last fall. He was using a Strike KIng square bill, Sexy Shad I believe, fishing on a bluebird day after a storm front had rolled through in October. He looked for stained water in the creek arms, and ended up with around 20, 8 being keepers by his estimation. He kept the boat parallel to the bank and very close so he could keep the crank in contact with rocks and timber. Only problem with fishing this way, if you have a backseater he's going to be blocked.
Members James32962 Posted February 29, 2012 Members Posted February 29, 2012 I actually make my own using circuit board lips... When we had a big storn in alabama we fished the old bombers in bone and Killed them.. I am going to paint a few in this color and try them on the rock after a rain.....

I wonder one thing though, did he set out to only fish cranks that day for a crankbait show, or if he would have used something else would he have done better? Or use a few techniques instead of just cranking. I know I rarely set out to just use one bait, but I am no KVD, so what do I know. Maybe I should just use one thing and I would do better.

My guess is he set out to fish cranks for the show, it is sponsored by Strike King, so I'm sure they wanted to show him catching fish on SK cranks. KVD is also known for being a crank fisherman, and he catches amazing amounts of bass on them. I think he did pretty darn good for a post cold front, bluebird day.
Sore Thumbs Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 I like the Lucky Craft RC 1.5. Chart/black back. Jackall has a new one that is fantastic. Called an ASKA chart/purple back. Luhr Jensen speed traps are awesome around here too with the craw patterns.
