Bassmaster21 Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Well its really not a new lure as it is a modification of one. The idea is to somehow attach a trailer to a buzzbait. But not your conventialnal trailer hook. It is a trailer grub/minnow/shad (whatever you chose) that is on a seperate line and hangs down and trails the buzzbait by roughly a foot. So to the ffish the buzzbait will go by on the surface then the smaller trailer bait will follow just under the surface just behind the buzzbait. Wonder what others think about this idea. Dont have to be nice. Just would like to hear from other anglers.
Stoneroller Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 the issue you might run into would be the buzzbait could be heavier than the trailer, which would tend to make it want to wrap up on the cast. typically you'd want the heavier lure behind to aid in casting. sounds like an interested idea though. Kayser Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 He's thinking like a dry-dropper (two-fly rig), only for bass. Full buzzbait, plus maybe a swimbait dragging behind it. WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
Daryk Campbell Sr Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 I think it sounds like a good idea, I would worry about tangles as was mentioned by Stoneroller, but if you were to use wire for the trailer as shown by Mitch, that could solve the issue, and keep it uniform. With fishing line the trailer will not be consistant, but could be with a stiff wire. Now you will have to come up with a name for the .....Rig. podum Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Call it the Missouri Rig. All the other states are getting their due. Just make sure it works before you name it. I wish I had more time more than I wish I had more money.
Mitch f Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 Call it the Missouri Rig. All the other states are getting their due. Just make sure it works before you name it. Podum, there is already a Missouri rig, it's a jig and pig with a 3 ft leader tied on the eye of the jig and a small plastic worm on a hook at the end. Kind of like a Carolina rig, except the weight is a jig and pig. Here is a discussion about it: http://www.wmi.org/bassfish/bassboard/fishing_tactics/message.html?message_id=118108 "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Bassmaster21 Posted March 6, 2012 Author Posted March 6, 2012 As mentioned, casting the "rig" was my worry. I have tampered with the idea some but was really just curious as to what people thought. I know typically fish that hit a buzzbait commit and hit it hard but I'm wondering if there are any fish that are just curious and maybe a trailing lure would seal the deal for them so to speak.
dtrs5kprs Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 Use leader sleeves and some cable leader material, about 60# nylon coated, to crimp it through the eye of your trailer hook on the buzzbait. Sleeve and crimp at eye, cut to however long you want it, crimp off at the next hook eye. That will leave it flopping a bit, but a cable tie or some shrink tubing will hold it to the trailer hook (1st) shank. Given all the A-rig hubub, it should still be within the 3 hook rule if you rig it this way. If you use a 1/4oz, or maybe even 1/8oz buzzer and a body like a swimbait or little dipper you should be ok tumble and weight wise. Plastic blades would help you keep it on top. Other option, if you pour your own, is to dremel a groove into the mold for an additional wire or cable. Probably out the bottom of the head or the back. Not a bad idea at all. Might be dynamite for whites and hybrids.
Bassmaster21 Posted March 8, 2012 Author Posted March 8, 2012 Thanks for the ideas. Ill give it some more thought and see if i cant come up with something functional.
