Al Agnew Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 I was on the Meramec today with my dad. I would have rather floated another river, but he can't handle being in a canoe, so we took the jetboat to Onondaga. The fishing was SLOW! I kept him in position to hit all the spots first, and he ended up catching an 18 inch largemouth and a 16 inch smallmouth, both out of the same little spot, but altogether between the two of us we maybe caught a dozen fish. They have definitely left their wintering spots...water temp was 58 degrees this morning and got up to 60 degrees, which is pretty much unheard of for early-mid March. I fished all the spots where I caught fish all winter and didn't get a sniff. The fish we caught were in summertime places, but I think they are simply confused right now with the very sudden rise in temperatures. I caught one fish on topwater, a few on crankbaits, NONE on jerkbaits. Dad caught all his fish on a black spinnerbait. Several boats were out, mostly buzzing up and down the river without doing much fishing.
cwc87 Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 I was just upstream of u Al caught about the same amount u did. Plus a nice bunch of crappie.
Smalliebigs Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Al, I waded two creeks around Bonne Terre, both were fairly cold still but, it wasn't too bad and did very good. I didn't get the 18+ but, the numbers were great. It was kinda freaky beeing that warm this early and wading a creek. All fish were caught on this 1/4 ounce spinner bait.....I call my creek spinner....in Sexxy Purple Shad
