Members yeehaw Posted March 13, 2012 Members Posted March 13, 2012 I've fished the upper bull shoals area during the spring run the past few years. I originally started out with jerkbaits and had zero luck. During the past 3 years, I normally throw roostertails (white/chrome blade), roadrunners (white/chart), and 2" grubs in basic minnow colors on an 1/8 or 1/16 head. I've caught everything from whites & walleye to trout and crappie. Is there anything ya'll like better? I know several people are throwing sliders. Do you prefer the smaller sliders for crappie or the bigger bass sliders? Favorite go-to colors? Favorite jighead style, color, or size? I'm definately curious what everyones comfort lure is.
Wayne SW/MO Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Swimming minnows are the favorite. I don't know that they are anymore effective then what you're throwing however. They have always been available in bulk here and at a cheap price making them attractive. As far as I know smoke, white and chartruese are the favorites. I think many keep purple handy also. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
troutchaser Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 I've always had good luck with the Rapala CD-1 in silver. Other than that, I like the Lil' Jake in white with red dots, or I'll just use curly tail grubs on a 1/32 head. Color depends on water clarity and sunshine. Paul Rone
Members walker04 Posted March 13, 2012 Members Posted March 13, 2012 I really like white on white rooster tail, 1/8 oz, about the last hour of the day. Sun goes down and silver blade isn't as effective imo. I have better luck with the white on white or Chart/Chart. I catch walley, smallies, whites, and trout.
Ham Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 I didn't know anybody fished anything but an Alabama rig anymore. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Wayne SW/MO Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 I think they get hung up in the riffles Ham. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Jack Jones Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 I'm a fan of the smaller rooster tails with bumblebee, chartruese and gold being productive. I've also done well on black ones. As far as curly tail grubs and the small slider minnows on jig heads, what's your technique on those. I typically do a simple cast and slow to moderate retreive and never get too far with them. Members Brendan Armour Posted March 14, 2012 Members Posted March 14, 2012 Caught a few nice whites trolling the umbrella rig from power site to swan. 1/4 oz head and 4 pearl slider paddle tail swimming minows with a willow blade in the center. Also caught a bunch of small and large mouth plus one mean mouth on the turbine side of the dam with a 1/4 oz head and a large smoke and silver swimming minow, fishing it like a creature bait, just let her sink and the drag it back a little at a time.
Dutch Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Bucktail jigs for me. I carry them in all sizes and several colors.

I think the man says you can only have 3, if I'm reading your post correctly. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
