Ness, when I am out in the tick woods I use Raid ant and roach killer. It really does the trick. I try to get some unsented or a fragrance the original has a bad chemical smell but they all seem to work great fore me.

I wear muck boots with the pants legs tucked in. I have had several ticks on me, but none have latched on. When I get home, I dump the clothes in the white tub in the master bath till washed. Ticks that crawl off are easy to spot and can't negoiate the slick surface to the rest of the house.

I have gotten away from Deet, it is burning the skin. I use a Coleman Product called Skin Smart and it has 3-[N-Butyl-N-acetyl]-aminopropionic acid, ethyl ester as an active ingredient. It seems to get the job done without the smell and the burn.

Showers? :D

That's what's got me wondering...where was this dude hanging out all day Sunday, with a shower and work Monday, shower Tuesday morning? He was skinny, so presumably hadn't been feasting on ness juice. Just stolling up my leg, heading right for my crotch. He died a slow painful death -- spread the word.

It was hot this last weekend, so I hit the woods in shorts and tennies, thinking a double dose of spray would keep them at bay. Checked when I got home -- nada. Had a bunch of the teeny ones and a couple of bigguns I found Sunday night. Ankles so chigger-bit I was scratching the in all the meetings I had Mon and Tues. It was Cutter, which I keep in my bag for when the skeeters are bothering me. I actually think ticks like the stuff.

Laker, Billet, SLider -- I'm gonna research this a little. Thanks for the tips.

JD -- I've got the muck boots in the car, just didn't use them. I guess I learnt me something there.

felt soled waders are perfect for mushroom hunting...no ticks and you spread the spores around...

I thought of that too. An added benefit is anyone who sees you thinks a crazy guy is on the loose. Keeps them outta your hunting grounds. :D

On a positive, thread hijacker of a note: I stumbled onto a pond hidden in the woods where I was looking. It's on public land, and I'd seen it on the maps but never pursued it because of where it was. About a half-acre, appears to have some depth to it. The dam is completely overgrown with trees up to 25 years old or so. Not a lick of trash or any noticeable paths around or leading to it. Lotsa minnows and frogs.

If there's no path, probably no fish..good luck...and happy shroom hunting...I may put my felt soled waders on craigslist advertised as mushroom hunting boots...P.T. Barnum would be proud...

Felt soles are fine in streams other than trout water.

It's not true anyway. When I lived in Columbia, I used to go to Fingerlakes once in a while and fish this little puddle on the side of the road that was completely ignored by everyone else. Sometimes I'd hit it on the right day and catch 3-4 pounders one after another...for about a half hour, then it was done. As long as it's deep enough to not freeze solid in the winter, it's fishable, and probably golden.
