Outside Bend Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 Yes, buffalo are native to the Mississippi River basin. <{{{><
flyrodman Posted March 17, 2012 Author Posted March 17, 2012 I think the Black Carp is the next species due to wreak havoc to our waters. A couple have been caught in the Mississippi River Basin, a few I them were diploid or assumed to be fertile and one was triploid or assumed to be sterile. Their food source is mainly snails and mollusks which are abundant in some rivers so I would think that if they could reproduce fast enough, they could quickly spread like some of the other carp species in the U.S. Luke Walz
Members skiburd Posted March 18, 2012 Members Posted March 18, 2012 Technically? Yeah I think so. Carp were brought here from Europe back around 1890 for food. Asian carp later to control algae and vegetation in ponds
Haris122 Posted March 18, 2012 Posted March 18, 2012 Carp were brought here from Europe back around 1890 for food. Asian carp later to control algae and vegetation in ponds I think what they meant is that technically, even the common carp was first brought from Asia into Europe. So even it is "Asian".
