brother dave Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 I too have always heard that one the negatives to stocking them is the fact that they are wanderlust. I wonder if they eat small Asian carp. I eat the asian carp. Theyre mighty tasty when the waters cold and when theyre big enough to filet. as far as whites eatin em, dont know. Would have to speculate they do. Thats only based on the fact I ve used the asian carp as cut bait with as good as results as shad I shop at the outdoor grocery store
Hog Wally Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Anyone fishing for hybrids whites around chain of rocks
Old plug Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 I used to fish a lot In the. the winter howeever I spent my time below below Carksville. That would seem like a hell of a area to nail some. Those rock jetties they have out in to the river for channel control would seem like hot spots anywhere on the river. Many a time I caught a pile of white and tellows of those things. If I was going to use a bair I would pick a golden eye. everything seem to be anything the river seems to love them. A neighbor and i caught 62 walleye and sauger without fishing from just one spot on the Illinois side right below Clarksville. Clarksville was one of those places I considered retiring.
Hog Wally Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Sounds phenomenal! I'm gonna hit the Mississippi in the morn and try for walleye whites hybrids. I'm hearing rumors and seeing pictures so I gotta go see for myself I know there is some good fish swimming up the meramec out of the Mississippi but the flow is too much for my liking.
Old plug Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 Hogwally--- Jist be careful of the tow boats. That is kind of silly for me to say. I can remember being about 14 yrs old and running up behind tows jumping their wakes in a old wooden runabout.
Hog Wally Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Barges! It's a staging area for the lock so it was very turbulent. Did catch a trophy size wiper for the river. It was bursting with eggs Water was 59 degrees.
Bill B. Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 Hybrid stripers are in every river and significant lake in the state, if for no other reason than that they are a popular fish for stocking in ponds, and they leave those ponds and head downstream whenever there's enough rain to get them over a pond spillway. I have hybrid stripers in my pond--and a good number of them have ended up swimming in Perche Creek. From Perche Creek, they can roam over most of the continental United States.
