BTW, is everyone using "Rooster Tail" as a generic term for inline spinners? I seem to hear that quite often. Or, is this area committed completely to Warden's Lures and the Yakima Bait Company? Just asking.

Everytime I used it, I used it as a generic term, and in most cases for the cheap 5 pack ones. Don't know about everyone else.

In order by importance...

1. Topwater anything, especially the Spit'n Image and the Spro Hollowbody Frogs

2. Spinnerbait, chartreuse white, all sizes!

3. Texas rigged black or pumpkinseed colored worm

4. White grub on a jig head, or a white roadrunner jig head, usually on an ultralight set up

5. Tie between a very shallow running crankbait, and any form of swim bait (since there are so many options out now)

For a fly rod, small to medium poppers, crawdad imitations if there are areas of fewer weeds, and of course the wooly bugger.

One thing that I can always get catching fish and which I always use if I take someone who isn't into fishing as much as me, is the Gulp Fish Fry grubs on a jig head. If there are fish around, you are certain to catch them.

Good question T. I've always gone with Rooster Tail brand. I've been curious about Blue Fox/Mepps though. I've tried the Mepps Black Fury and some other inlines, but always seem to have the best luck on Rooster Tail brand.

However, lately Joe's Lures have been good to me due to their stinger treble for short strikers.

I'm surprised more people people aren't saying Flukes. I thought those were a go to around here.

Do folks put flukes on the their road runners, or just curly tail grubs?

Blue Fox inline spinners are junk. I bought a 5 pack at Wally World and the spinners wouldn't spin, and if they did the skirts would only last a few fish before the thread holding them on would unravel and all I'd have left is a spinner and a hook. I'm sure a little head cement would fix that, but still...

IMO, Mepps and Rooster tail are the only ones I'd ever buy...

For me Rooster Tail is Rooster Tail all others are just trying to be it. Ive caught lots of fish and many species on them.

Thanks for the feedback. I've simply had ZERO luck on Rooster Tails. The willow blade drives me nuts. That said, I've seen the Sonic in the store; I may give them a try. I like the Joe's Flies as well. Their little spinners with a stinger are great in clear water.

I know which ones you're talking about, the "FLASH" pack. They are weighted too heavy and don't spin well unless in fast water. Check out their Vibrax. They are very well made and the "gear and bell" chamber make a hell of a racket in the water.

I prefer actual rooster tail brand spinners and all mine are single hook. I sorta hate trebles
