I would like to know what your opinions are about how important jig head color is (chart, white, pink, yellow) in relation to crappie fishing. Does jig head color make that much difference on catch rate or would a person catch as many on plain old lead heads. Again I know it is everyones opinion but would love to hear the feed back as well as a tried and true favorite color if you have one.

when the crappies are up doing their thing i dont think it matters the color of jighead ive caught more on a regular lead head w a white swimmin minnow than i have anything else besides at this time of year who is to say. see two different guys go out both catch limits one guy does it in an hour one does it in two is it the color, fisherman, or amount of crappie staged up on a specific type/piece of cover fattening up before the spawn. just my two cents

Think it is more a factor in clear, cold water, especially if you are working vertically where they get a good look at it.

Im with dtr. unless its cold and going painfully slow when they slowly approch it could matter. Right now, it doesnt seem to be a big deal. Char is always a good color. I normally use black just to make it kinda disappear. Color of plastic, rate of fall and location is a lot more important right now in my eyes.

Bry, have you found a red hook that was worth a durn? I have yet to find one that the point didn't turn, the color either chip or fade off and the hook to be as weak as a kitten. I have tried everything from Eagle Claw to Gamagatsu, to VMC to Bass Pro, and Mustad. They are all pretty much the same. For crappie probably does not matter, but I like my Bass Hooks to be good. Just wondering.

I always use unpainted, but mostly fish at LOZ, but the water there can be pretty clear from Fall to Spring. I mainly do that because they are cheaper, besides, a lead head is somewhat the color of a minnow anyway. I like to use Blue ice Bobby Garland jigs too, they are not outalndish in color, and have good profile and action, good for shooting too. (Super glue the jig to the head and it will stay together a lot longer)

I have not. Most of the ones I have tried have been dull, rolled, or actually wider at the point when compared to a bronze or black nickel. Gammie trebles were some of the worst. Thought they would be nice on sticks and spoons, not so much.

Matzuo might be different, but have not tried them. Daiichi is a little better, but not sure it matters.

What a great forum, feedback like this is awesome. It is somewhat reinforcing what my thoughts were. Seems like jig head color can make more difference to the fisherman than the fish in most cases. It does make sense about the real cold water and slow presentation though. I have driven myself crazy at times worring about matching jig head and soft plastic colors to look right. As for the red hook........ It does not make much sense for it to help produce more strikes because it is red, when cajun line sells red line and tell anglers that the color red disapears at a certain depth MAN IT'S CONFUSING.

I've seen jig color make a difference more than once. I don't know that the head is as important as the tail however.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Never paint mine and I haven't had any problems catching fish. Wayne, you know I don't paint them and I would have to agree with your statement.
