eric1978 Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 Well, maybe in the Guide, but in the Pack I can carry 4 or 5 7' rods easily. Me too. Well, all mine are 6 footers, but I've carried as many as five and they all fit fine under the bow cap...so I don't know what your problem is Andy. They do start crowding your leg room a bit when you have that many, and a lot of times I'll just take three or four. Any more than two on each side becomes a headache. The Pack is just a better boat than the Guide. But if I'm gonna pay that much for a canoe, I'd rather just get a Vagabond or some other solo that's in the 14 foot range. The Packs and Guides are just too short IMO. If they were a foot or so longer they'd be way better.
Guest Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 It's possible, but is it comfortable for a full day of fishing? Most of my trips on smallie streams are full days, and most of the time I stay in my boat. I don't really get out to wade that much. Two forward and two backward might work for me, but I would probably bust some rod tips trying to cram my rods under the bow/stern caps with a full load of gear. Two has become my compromise in my little boat.

I have to simplfy things in my older age.....two rods
RSBreth Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 They never get in my way, and I fish a couple of spots where I get out and portage the whole kit upstream, in two trips. Not a problem at all, you don't have to "cram" them in there, either - they fit just fine.
Al Agnew Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 Yep, as I remember, when I had a Pack I carried four rods like RSBreth showed. Nice thing about the longer Vagabond is that you can fit two rods with handles on the seat thwarts and two with handles on the thwart in front of the seat. If you hook the lures on the hook keepers on your rods, they never get tangled, although most of the time I let my lures dangle from the end of the rods. I always carry four or five, and hardly ever have any entanglement problems.
Wayne SW/MO Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 While we're on solo's, the Guide 147 isn't a bad solo if you have the strength the wrestle it if need be. It's a 14' that you can stand in, take some one else if the need arises, and carry plenty of camping gear. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Guest Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 Don't get me wrong, the packs are great boats. I am glad that I bought mine, and for $350 it was hard to pass up. If I could go back in time, I would have gotten something that was at least 13 feet. I do a lot of solo camping trips out of it, and I would like to be able to stand up from time to time to stretch my legs or get lures out trees when I go monkey fishing. To each his own. Enjoy it.
fishinSWMO Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 Looking at Mohawk solos, which would be a better choice the solo14 or the odyssey 14? Jeremy Dodson
Guest Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 The odysseys are awesome boats. I haven't paddled the solo 13 or 14. I think they might be more of a whitewater boat.

I only take 6 or 7 or 8 when I go to the lake. how many clubs does a golfer have? Fish On Kayak Adventures, LLC.
