WakenLake Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 really really hate it when seasoned anglers having a hard time gettin bit come cast beside the guy catching fish? I expect children and teens to do it and dont get mad at that because i love to see kids pull em out but I think its unacceptable for adults to do. I know i dont own the lake or any spots on the shoreline but when i started fishing my uncle would NOT allow me move into his "hole", I guess i just expected people to use common sense when fishing. I expect it at places like truman where people stand shoulder to shoulder but not an empty lake on a rainy day. www.jordanvalleyautorepair.com
Members kirbydog Posted April 16, 2012 Members Posted April 16, 2012 I'm like you. Don't fish from the shoreline very often but when I do I think etiquette requires that you give any other angler a proper amount of room and you should expect the same. I've had this happen to me when on my boat out on the lake. If they came up and asked me what I'm using that would be one thing but when they come up and just start crowding you I usually pull up the TM and head to another spot.
Mitch f Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 I with ya, gripes me too! Had a guide on LOZ that saw us catching whites one day actually got so close he almost bumped our boat. The he tried to start telling jokes to try to keep us happy. Like I really need a comedian to make me happy when I'm fishing. I finally just started up the motor and left. I also was at Table Rock one time and was trolling at full speed towards a rock pont that was 50 yards away and closing fast. A guy in a new bass boat comes ripping up and stops within 20 ft of the point at the point and starts fishing...imagine his surprise when I started fishing btween him and the bank. He say "Hey, I'm fishing a tournement!" I said "hope you win!' I was in my thirties and much more excitable than I am now. I think if I was in the same situation now I would just go to the next point. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Stoneroller Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 if you get within casting distance of me, i'm liable to I will cast something with sharp dangly hooks on it, right close to your eyes. Might even hit you in the head, i'm not the most accurate caster, sorry, should have stayed further back I guess. note: that's just for being within casting distance. Fish On Kayak Adventures, LLC. Feathers and Fins Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Stone you are not the only one who has methods to let others know they are to close. I love it when people come trolling up my stern when im drifting for stripers. 1st time ill call you off politly, second time I carry a spool of line with 10 treble hooks on it and WILL let it out behind my boat 100 ft, if you catch it in your trolling motor im letting the spool go. Have fun getting that out of the trolling motor. I have gave strangers bait and shown them exactly how to catch fish hell i even call people over to get in on a good bite. But show continued disrespect and I have methods to teach a lesson. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Fishslayer88 Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 if it happens again just let them keep on doing it but let them cast first then you throw a few feet behind them let that guys bait trigger the bite and then yours will be a little closer to the fish, works sometimes and its funny to see how aggravated a guy gets when he fishing 3 ft away from another guy who is catching all the fish.
LarrySTL Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Jigging spoons, or zara spooks, on 20 lb line work pretty well http://intervenehere.com
ozark trout fisher Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 My favorite is when I'm fishing off the bank and some dude comes by in a bass boat and starts fishing right where I'm at... I always think, you've got the whole lake (or river) and you really have to set up shop right there, don't you? But such is life, and I try not to let it get under my skin so much anymore. I usually just go somewhere else, because I don't actually enjoy fishing very much when I'm pissed off.
