BilletHead Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Good hunt this morning. Last year Her bird's came hard. Lightning, wind, rain and mud I put her through. She says how come you don't have to work so hard? I say because I don't need to.. heheheh At that time it was the wrong thing to say. So this year I hoped it would be a better hunt and it was. We get to our hide and sit up the decoys. A hen and jake on both sides of a tree row. Get settled and soon the woods was loud with birds gobbling on each side of us. Windy though. Getting pretty light and a bit quieter. I knew the birds had flew down. Soon a gobble on the ground, another and another. Then birds in the field to our left. I say get ready to the left, then I start calling. Four birds make a beeline to the decoys. The one she shot strutting and gobbling all the way. Closer and closer and I say shoot and boom the shotgun went. All four birds streached there heads up? Shoot again and this time in a heap her bird went. I pounced on it and over The Mrs. comes. High fives, fist bumps and a hug. Wow that was easy she says. Then she says remember what week this is? Yes I reply. Six years ago she had been told she had breast cancer. We had hunted the next day. I called her in a bird. Told her to shoot and she didn't, bird left. I say what's wrong. I was afraid the shotgen kick would shake the cancer and spread it. We both had a cry that morning in the turkey woods. So this was a what we call her other birthday. Another year cancer free. That's what they call it but once you are touched by it you are never free of the thought. You think of it every day. I am truly blessed to have her for my best friend and wife. Hold them tight while you can. Cancer jerks a knot in your tail and you see things a different way. Her bird is a 2year old. Little 1/2" spurs, 16lbs 7oz. But get this FOUR BEARDS! Biggest being 5 3/4" long. Here are some photos. One especally for Chris (Bird Watcher) of her in disguise. I would of rather put a Groucho Marx on her but don't know how, BilletHead "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" Bird Watcher Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 Yes! I love it Marty. You are a lucky man to have a buddy like that for a wife. That bird looks like it has a mohawk with all those beards. Tell Mrs. Billet she has set bar for all of us. Keep living it up my man. I'm laughing at the incognito picture. She is definitely learning the ways of the ninja:)
