I was out showing my friends son how to fish the other day at Busch Wildlife and we stumbled across this snake (literally). I think it was some type of water snake but don't know for sure.

I'd say a red corn snake.

I'm no expert but looks too big to be a corn snake, and belly doesn't look right to me. I think it is a water snake because it is so big around, and many are colored like that. It very well may be a corn snake, if you are an expert 3wt then I'll take your word for it, but looks like a water snake from here to me.

We had a smart police officer from Iowa do a Steve Irwin impression on a copperhead down here one evening. Despite Amy telling him it was a copperhead he proceeded to grab it by the tail and get a nice bite right on his hand. His wife was real happy to be taking him to the hospital, but despite a huge hand he was back the next day and on the river.

Looks like some water snakes that I see here. At least very similar. The temperature of the water right now is cold enogh that they are pretty docile. I pulled one out of the water recently to see if it was alive, and after it laid in the sun it took off like a bat out of Haiti.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
