Wayne SW/MO Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Lightning is unpredictable and I don't blame you for being worried. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
laker67 Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Years back when I used to bow hunt, I had built a stationary stand in a medium size oak tree. Arriving before daylight one stormy morning, I decided to wait out the storm in the truck. Lightning struck several times close to where I was parked. When the storm passed, I walked to my tree stand to discover that my stand tree had been struck. Big splinters of wood and bark were everywhere, with a king size split running from top to bottom. I never used that stand again.

stlfisher Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Sounds like and interesting day for sure. Glad you got out ok. I remember watching that River Monster's show and one of his camera got struck by lighting....that can't feel to good.
Gavin Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 A buddy of mine got struck by lightning on the bonefish flats several years ago. He got lucky, no permananent damage, but its nothing to mess with. Sounds like a memorable trip.
eric1978 Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Unless that rod was made of metal, I don't see how it would be any more dangerous carrying it back with you. A human being is a much stronger target for lightning than a little noodle of fiberglass or graphite.
awhuber Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 I am getting too old to dodge lightning bolts! The only thing that scares me on over nighters.
