txspecks04 Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 I am hoping to be on the Norfork mid-to-end of this week and just wanted to check in and see if anyone has been out there since I haven't seen any reports in a while. Looks like there have been some significant periods of low water over there so I am definitely looking forward to it.
Members Hogs on the Fly Posted May 13, 2012 Members Posted May 13, 2012 The parking lot below the dam is still under construction although one can walk down to access the river. I managed to push my drift boat down the hill recently to float the evening rise. Fishing mid river and throughout the C&R has been very productive. In fact, while throwing streamers on the 2 unit rise, we turned the biggest dam brown trout I've ever seen on the Norfork. Easily 30"+. It chased a small rainbow that was following my streamer and almost got it. It came out of the water like a porpoise. On lower flows it's hard to beat soft hackles and black midges in the range of #18-#22. Good luck! Best, LB

txspecks04 Posted May 13, 2012 Author Posted May 13, 2012 Got out and fished around the Ackerman access all day on Friday 5/11. Great day of fishing. Didn't catch anything of really great size (a few rainbows at 16" or so was probably best), but did well in the numbers department. Also, almost pulled the grand slam; caught a brown, two cutts, and plenty of bows but I just couldn't find a brookie to finish it out before the water came up and it was time to head out. All in all, a great day of fishing on one of my favorite rivers in the state.
Members Hogs on the Fly Posted May 14, 2012 Members Posted May 14, 2012 Fantastic txspecks! So glad to hear about the brookie. Hopefully they'll rebound to the pre-flood status that we used to know. Best, LB
gotmuddy Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 every brookie I have caught on norfork has been in the 200yds above ackerman. I dont know why. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
Justin Spencer Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 every brookie I have caught on norfork has been in the 200yds above ackerman. I dont know why. Saw a kid catch one below the bridge in Dry Run a few weeks back. Members Hogs on the Fly Posted June 10, 2012 Members Posted June 10, 2012 Fished the Fork twice in the past three days. I basically avoid the upper section as the bait chunkers have decimated that area and push past to Long Hole. Did very well on streamers during both sunny and overcast skies including turning a few BIG fish. Today was no different. We threw a switch rod with streamers and caught some very respectable and healthy bows although the water was falling out. Hard to beat a griffith's gnat on low water for you dry fly guys and gals. Best, LB
