Rainbow Trout Colored Lures

Just wondering if Ineed to pick up any rainbow colored lures before heading down next month? D o they make much difference?

I tend to like to fish Rainbow trout colored lures EVERYWHERE. They do still stock around 30,000 rainbows a year into Bull Shoals itself. I caught one way back up a creek in Oakland so I'm sure the larger bass and larger walleye do eat more than a few.

I don't know that you need to buy any just for the trip, but there is some fisherman's logic behid the idea.

To feed the walleyes & stripers. I have caught a lot of both species on trout colored and trout shaped stick baits mostly in the fall & winter months when the water temps are below 60 degrees. Years ago AGFC stocked fingerling (4"-6") rainbow trout by the thousands in the lake but stopped doing that after a creel censusses & tagging program failed to show that the trout were being caught by many anglers. I guess the walleyes didn't know where to send the tags.

I thought the brook trout were stocked in the White River for brown trout food. Mike's right, but what I've heard was in the pre 9/11 days people would catch LARGE Rainbows near the dam at night fishing vertically from pontoon boats etc. That area likely still holds lots of large bows, but that area is off limits to boats nowadays.

We'd have to look at the stocking data, but I think AGFC is STILL stocking rainbows in the spring each year. Hey man if they're gonna dump em in Amon's Lake, they might as well throw a few in BSL.

we've been trolling the 3/8 oz. rainbow trout, and purple trout color hot -n- tots recently for walleye !

I have some rainbow trout colored jig heads I made that are green,pink, and silver flake that I've been using crawlers on and that's been catching some while verticle jigging.

I was with mixermarkb in his boat fishing around the Oakland area and caught a rainbow.

It was as long as my leg, around 30" ,and I let it go !

I'll have to find a picture of it.

It was a personal best!

It just makes sense to me to try something that is a natural color for the lake. Have given up on colors that catch more fishermen than fish. Been thinking about 4 or 5 inch rainbow colored Ripple shad Powerbait.

via an AGFC email I got today, BSL received 52, 900 "catchable" Rainbow Trout in April. There's gonna be some fat and happy walleye.

Trout are stocked fromt he Pot Shoals Net pens.

I can remember back int he 1980s fishing Long Bottom below Peels and chatching and filleting 5 pound rainbows. Brown trout and lake trout were also stocked and the lakers did very well, bt most people did not know what they were catchig with the lakers.

They turn up on the upper end on occasion, but I don't know if the come from AR or Taney. I caught a decent one in Beaver creek early in the no white season.
