Mitch f Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 IMO, unless the rod is a high quality rod, it's a waste of time and money to replace the all the guides. Just buy a new rod that has guides matched to the rod. You can get a high quality rod under $75 if you look for bargains. Heck, you can get a decent rod for under $50 nowadays. Members buffresources Posted May 18, 2012 Author Members Posted May 18, 2012 Thanks everybody for the help...the rods are old so I have begun to replace them with new ones. Now that we have pre-election priced gas I may have a little more money to get better ones. Thanks again for all the input...it helped
grizwilson Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 Just my 2 cents, ceramic guides also crack, and nick line like a knife. Having built and repaired many rods the best deal I have found is go to the Bass pro outlet, find some 7 ft. rod that is now a 5 foot, buy, for about 10 bucks cut the guides off and there you go. Go slow, use the heat as possible. I like the titanim (sp) guides. “If a cluttered desk is a sign, of a cluttered mind, of what then, is an empty desk a sign?”- Albert Einstein
