Addicted to Creeks Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 there is good rap and really terrible rap, there are guys who make it an art and rap songs designed to just be really fun songs to listen to in a club/ bar with some womens around, both have their own reasons for being good (this from a guy who listens to pretty heavy metal music and alot of country) so i tend to be pretty eclectic in my music all music styles are good if they are done well not trying to hijack from a thread about a good video but im just saying Fish always lose by being "got in and dressed." It is best to weigh them while they are in the water. The only really large one I ever caught got away with my leader when I first struck him. He weighed ten pounds. —Charles Dudley Warner
eric1978 Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 there is good rap and really terrible rap Well I agree with half of that.

Nortrad Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 Seen this one last week, nice stuff, what a fight and what a fish fighter.
Outside Bend Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 I know you will call me a curmudgeon, but even as much as I hate modern country music, they never sing about killing cops, thug life, gangsta crap. Since I consider rap an art form spawned form the ghetto with lyrics that are created from a demographic who's out of wedlock birth rate is 80%; I personally don't consider rap music but noise. You asked................... ps. Love blues, Jazz, and Raggae How many blues and country songs are about murdering spouses or loved ones, cheating, alcoholism, prison, marriage out of wedlock, illegal activities, feuds, vendettas, and vigilante justice? Some of the most well-known country and folk songs give reverence to folks like Jesse James; personally I don't see how that's different from idolizing a modern thug. Country, blues, and other music genres are plenty subversive, seems sorta arbitrary to say it's something only found in rap. I'm not sure how out-of-wedlock birth rates correlates to the quality of art, but it seems like an odd metric- given how much art and music has been influenced, even generated, by extramarital relationships, recreational drugs, and other illicit activities. I'm not a huge fan of rap, or dubstep, or a lot of other music tastes. But I'll defend it as a craft, something you have to work to be good at, and if it isn't art, it certainly approaches it. If folks don't like it, fine. But if folks are saying it's bad because of the content or the message, we need to be honest with ourselves and throw a whole lot of art and media in the trash bin, too. <{{{><
eric1978 Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 I don't get all philosophical about it...I just think it sucks because no one is playing an instrument. That's one of my prerequisites for considering something "music." Computers don't count.

As I said, I hate country music 2. As I said ,rap is an art form 3. Comparing rap's cop killing lyrics, gang banging, drive by crap to country/blues alcoholic, cheatin and wife beating lyrics is as lame as comparing the jihadist sawing our heads off with a dull butter knife on video to the "atrocities" at Git-mo ( making naked Muslims piled up and take photos) You tell me which is worse?? eric1978 Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 I'd like to start the coalition to ban Hank Williams Jr. What a mouthbreather. Hank Sr. has gotta be rollin' in his grave.
