Feathers and Fins Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 This is a Walter Report... They are in 17 to 25 ft of water on flats near main lake channel. Trolling Black and White Rapalas 150ft behind the boat at 2.5mph is the trick. I managed 8 today and a few whites and te smallest striper I think I have ever seen. I came off the water about 7:30 I figured when I was trying to decide how to mount the 50Cal on the Boat and Torpedo's for destroying the Party Barges and Ski Boats it was time to get off the lake... I saw so many illegal activities and dangerous ones AINT NO WAY I am going on the lake the rest of the weekend... Looks like its getting time to visit the Tail-waters and Taney untill the water gets cold again and the Morons go back to the closets. And people always seem so shocked someone died at the lake.. Maybe just Maybe if we had more Law Enforcement and they actually started citing and arresting people things would get better. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
J-Doc Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Brother.........you said a mouthfull!!! Don't get me started on the locals wasting gas and tearing up the shoreline. The AGFC is understaffed for the size of lake and the Sherriffs Dept also. One boat a piece is not enough and a few jet skis are nice but they need a darn arsenal! What's the difference between Falcon Lake and Beaver? You may die but it won't be from pirates on Beaver. Just an idiot newbie boater drinking beer and not having any idea how to drive a boat. Its weekends like this that makes night fishing so appealing. Need marine repair? Send our own forum friend "fishinwrench" a message. He will treat you like family!!! I owe fishinwrench a lot of thanks. He has been a great mechanic with lots of patience!
Ron Burgundy Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 My son and I fished from 6:30am til noon and got 7 walleyes and 5 of them were keepers.....bottom bouncer and crawler 20FOW on chunk rock points.....I love to troll I just havent did much trolling this yr but have got a few trolling...good job Fin!.....since there is very few fisherman that target walleye's on Beaver u get some strange looks when they ask what I'm fishing for and I tell them walleye.....A guy today couldn't belive we had caught 7. Gone but not forgotten Martin Ford
Quillback Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Sounds like the Beav is getting to be a nice walleye lake. I wonder if AGFC still stocks fingerlings? I remember reading a while back that they wanted to stop stocking and see if the walleye could be self supporting.
Feathers and Fins Posted May 26, 2012 Author Posted May 26, 2012 No question it could be and does to some degree... I have caught Walleye from 6'' to 29'' this year, BUT we have had several high water years to aid in the spawn. I do not think AGFC is the problem, ACE is the problem with all the lakes they control. If they were to simply leave the water at full pool from February to May I think all our lakes would be better off. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Quillback Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Yep, I agree, keeping the lake high during the spawn is a good thing.
Stump bumper Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 I was really out spoken about how they allowed no room for spring rains two years in a row and destroyed homes down stream due to using the flood gates plus the waste of energy of water going over the dam instead of through it. So I can't agree with high water in the spring being a good thing, maybe for the spawn but not for property along the lake or for generating clean electricity. It has always been practice to draw down during the winter to allow storage room for flood control and that being the 1st purpose of the lake I would have to side with the ACE on doing their job this year. Controlling the fish population is AGFC's job. Just sayin'...... How far up river walleye have to go to spawn I have no idea but I do know using the flood gates to control the water levels are bad since Beaver is the first lake in the chain of flood control and having water going over the darn to a flooded Table Rock was a bad thing.
Feathers and Fins Posted May 26, 2012 Author Posted May 26, 2012 Stump, the Walleye dont all run up river that is a Myth! I have seen them spawin on rocks and and other areas. Yes some make a run but others do not, you can actually verify that through many DNR and Science Papers. BUT they do need the water to stay at a level that allows for a successful spawn same as bass, As to Flood Control. THAT IS NOT THE PURPOSE of the lakes. They were build for water storage and electricity. I do not have much sympathy for people who build downstream of a dam in what would obviously be a flood zone. If people do not have brains enough to understand that to much water = flood and building a house in a flood zone = flooded house, well You Can't fix stupid! Kinda like people in FL who build on Barrier Islands then cry about loosing thier house when a Hurricane hits. There is just some places people do not need to build houses and business's. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Stump bumper Posted May 26, 2012 Posted May 26, 2012 Purpose Beaver Lake is one of five multiple-purpose projects constructed in the White River Basin for the control of floods, generation of hydroelectric power, and public water supply. The project also offers excellent recreational opportunities. http://www.swl.usace.army.mil/parks/beaver/damandlake.htm Just sayn'
