OzarkFishman Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Just eat your Wheaties and spinach and get ready to drag ..... I will gladly join you for the rain dance ... is there chanting or meditating involved ... that may help
Stoneroller Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 We floated the upper Big earlier this week. double digit drag fest. probably ground a years worth of hull off my yak. far, far too long and wild of a trip to take at low water and possibly deadly at higher flows thanks to farmer browns death trap of a private bridge... Fishing was great though. Even saw some smallies exhibiting defensive behavior as if on a bed, but weren't and they were mid stream in featureless areas, so I don't think, but could be wrong, that they were guarding fry. Definately were not on a bed, although the long ear sunfish were. SW MO got some good rainfall, although still far too little to make much of a difference. looks like it dried up as it ran over st louis. but it's raining in northern illinois now. d'oh! Was that big bullfrog in the bushes on the left side? Last time thru, I had been watching the bushes, a huge watersnake had disappeared into them. We always lay out flat and float under the bridge. When I approached the bridge, that dam frog jumped at me and I about crapped my shorts. One time we went thru and that farmer was dumping his trash into the river as we approached. Stoneroller Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 no but I ended up losing a rod to the river downstream from there. if anyone finds a berkley amp'd rod with a mitchell reel and a rod floater (which does nothing for locating a rod that's overboard when it's pitch black) it's mine. but finders keepers. that section has some great spots but it's a mess. took us around 13 hrs, unfortunately we didn't get started early enough to get off the river before dark. d'oh! His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974

It really sucks if the fish are biting and you start loosing track of time. We always try to get in at daylight to make that float. I have tried to find that farmer and that access, it would break that stretch up about right. The last part is pretty worthless anyway. How was the little rock garden nearer to the end. That can be rough at times to run. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Stoneroller Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 we dragged so many times I can't remember one rock garden from the next. shortly after we made it past that bridge it got dark and things started getting a little desperate. It was the first time on that section for me and I wasn't sure how far we had left. after 13 hrs of dragging, I was spent. I chalked the loss of a rig up to a donation to the fishing gods. Gives me a reason to rig some rod leashes. Fish On Kayak Adventures, LLC. Supreme Commander 'The Dude' of Kayak fishing www.fishonkayakadventures.com fishonkayakadventures@yahoo.com
