jdmidwest
Just a little poll to have a little fun. I noticed most fly shops are carrying a sling pack now that I really could not consider comfortable or useful. I have an Orvis Super Tackle Pack Vest I use in winter sometimes along with a full Chest/Backpack vest. In summer, I have a Flytedeck minimal system I have been using for a few years now that is great. I have forced myself to downsize and anything extra I toss in my shirt pockets. I also have a fanny pack that works well also if I need to carry more that a few boxes. Most chest packs have great new features like magnetic tool holders, work decks, etc. Just picking a few brains. Stoneroller
I have a Fishpond Gore range tech 'pack' although it's really a vest. there are times I love it and times I wish I had a smaller sling pack. The Glock doesn't fit in a sling pack though. Fish On Kayak Adventures, LLC. Wayne SW/MO
I've had several, but I now carry messenger bag that will carry 4 boxes, leaders and a few odds and ends. My vest is a Dr Slick lanyard. I've bought every gadget necessary to fly fish, and might have even used them on occasion, but they seem to serve me best in a box at home. The lanyard keeps my snips, tippet, and forceps handy and that is all I really use. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman. mic
I'll use a vest or a backpack. Depends on the day.
Jason R.
I've had my orvis sling pack since I started fishing and have never really managed to fins something I like better. Modified it a bit with a drying patch and a ring on the back to hang my net. I wish it was waterproof. Other than that, I am sure there is something better but I just haven't found it yet. I have a sweet vest but I just never use it- too hot and not enough storage. http://flyinthesouth.com/
Members kbbgood
I also have an Orvis Super Tackle Pack. Seams like the more pockets there is the more stuff I try to stuff in them till my back hurts and is no more fun to be out there. Now I use a Fishpond Blue River chest pack. Haven't had it out much though. Don't know if I like it or not. Tried it last year like an old time creel on my side and hated it. Now it is on my chest like it is designed for and it does work better. Can't use it like a fanny pack cause I am not that tall and get into to deep of water. Still, if I can't carry it in it I don't need it.

I looked at one for duck hunting also and thought the same thing. Does it stay in one place on your shoulder or move around all day? Al Agnew
Use a Fishpond fanny pack most of the time, but a sling pack when wading for smallies. I don't really like the sling pack...I think it could have been designed better. The fanny pack is a pain because I'm always getting in deep enough to get the bottom of it wet. Can't stand chest packs because I don't like something bulky in front of me. Can't wear a vest anymore because for some reason the weight in the vest bothers the heck out of my shoulders after a long day of fishing, and the lower vest pockets are always getting wet, too. I've used fanny packs as sling packs, wearing them over the shoulder like a bandolier, with the pack high on my back, and sliding it around to the front when I need to access it. That works well but the belt isn't designed to be worn that way and isn't comfortable. I've been meaning to try the Orvis sling pack for quite a while but just haven't pulled the trigger on it yet. eric1978
I'm with Al...none of them are perfect. I have a Simms hip pack but I mostly carry it as a sling unless I'm bushwhacking or wading tricky water. It doesn't ride any lower than if it were strapped 'round my waist. Yes it slides around a little. Had a chest pack for a while...hated it. Never wore a vest but I'm positive I'd hate that, too.
