oneshot Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 Is there any disadvantage of Transom Trolling Motor on a 18 Foot Jon? oneshot
fishinwrench Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 Just the standard law of physics that it's easier to pull an 18 ft. chain than it is to push one.

Well this makes sense.I have a Bow Mount but don't care for Foot Control, plus I don't feel the one I have is strong enough, even though my Son seems to think it is but he has messed with more Trolling Motors than me.Plus just seems if I'm trolling with Lines out it would be easier with Transom Mount? oneshot
Dutch Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 I'd keep using the bow until I got comfortable with the foot control unless I already had a transom mount or could borrow one to try out.
MoSportsmen Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 When you are positioning a boat (running a shoreline and bass casting) the bow mount is better. I like the kick steer bow mount, gives me the simplicity of a transom mount on the front of my boat. If you are trolling accross the lake the transom mount might be a little easier to control. If you have a tall bow on your boat and get a cross wind the transom mount would once again play second fiddle to the bow mount. Messing about in boats
oneshot Posted June 21, 2012 Author Posted June 21, 2012 Well I have a Transom one I can try just to check it out. oneshot
