Justin Spencer Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 Bet there are a bunch of Walleye down further in the White. I know the Spring River in Arkansas has a bunch. Feathers and Fins Posted June 27, 2012 Author Posted June 27, 2012 This thread has a reoccurring theme of big fish being harvest durring the spawn time. Why cant our DNR's protect them at that time like they do so many game animals and fish. simply put a 0 limit on the fish in march and april would seem to be smart https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
exiledguide Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 I think you can just pick whatever lake you want as the best. I've have always thought Greegs Ferry was best but when I lived in central Arkansas I had to rate Lake Catherine as the best after a guy from Hot Springs caught a 17.6 lb in April 2003 below Carpenter Dam. I found that the lakes and rivers produced better Walleye and Smallmouth fishing then I usually found in Canada and haven't gone north to fish since 1999.
Bird Watcher Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 This thread has a reoccurring theme of big fish being harvest durring the spawn time. Why cant our DNR's protect them at that time like they do so many game animals and fish. simply put a 0 limit on the fish in march and april would seem to be smart I've always thought the same thing, but I think that would lead to a widespread revolt. That's the time of year that most people can catch a big walleye because they are aggressive and more accessible. I know of a creek here in SW MO that has some real big walleye in it, I've seen pics up to 13#,(it was killed by the way) but I'm not going to post it up on this thread because of that very reason. I know there's a few guys on here that already know about it, but those native river run fish that get so big don't need any more pressure than they already get on their meager populations.
Feathers and Fins Posted June 27, 2012 Author Posted June 27, 2012 I would love to tie into some big walleye like that and dont think 2 months is too much to ask. A picture of one would be great IMO and those two months most fish are biting pretty good anyway so if you need eating target one of them. But I know what your saying. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Justin Spencer Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 Do walleye successfully reproduce in our lakes or all they all stocked fish? rps Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 There is some limited reproduction in the White River chain. However the fishery is primarily put and take -> stocking equals catching. If one depends upon reproduction, a closed/limited season makes perfect sense. If you depend upon put and take stocking, the "answer" is different. Example: If Table Rock were a natural reproduction lake, the "limit" might well be 4 or 5 fish @15 inches or greater with one over 22 inches. It is not so the limit is different.

Feathers and Fins Posted June 28, 2012 Author Posted June 28, 2012 According to AGFC Beaver is having good breeding, BUT.... It appears only on high water years.... Solution with that showing is to try and keep the lakes full... OK STOP LAUGHING I know ACE dont care. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
