moguy1973 Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 That dude lived a long and fulfilling life of fishing...makes me jealous and I hope I live to fish that long... http://www.bassmaster.com/news/homer-circle-dies-97 -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
Mitch f Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 Yep, he caught a lot of fish "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Wayne SW/MO Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 Wow, I haven't thought about him in a long time. He certainly made his mark on the sport of fishing. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
fishinwrench Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 I certainly have him to thank for helping me learn how to fish. I suppose I did pay for it by purchasing the rags that featured his input, but that's one of the few writers that always gave his readers WAY more than they were paying for. Thanks Homer
Brian K. Shaffer Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 Neat guy.. we lost another legend. another link - http://www.worldfish...-97-239959.aspx This will be read when I am gone and my ashes are thrown into Lake Taneycomo: The Fisherman’s Prayer By Homer Circle God grant that I may fish until my dying day; And when at last I come to rest, I’ll then most humbly pray; When in His landing net I lie in final sleep; That in His mercy I’ll be judged as good enough to keep! Amen Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.
Wayne SW/MO Posted June 24, 2012 Posted June 24, 2012 Anyone remember Jason Lucas? He was my bass fishing idol a long time ago. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Al Agnew Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Yeah, I well remember Jason Lucas as well as Homer Circle. And A.J. McClane and Joe Brooks and before them Ray Bergman. Guys that knew their stuff, and more importantly knew how much they didn't know but that other people did, and could write. I spent much of my youth reading the big three hunting and fishing magazines cover to cover, and poring over the illustrations and trying to draw just like them. I still get nostalgic for those magazines the way they were back then, when you would read about hunting and fishing trips to exotic locales and dream of going on an African hunting safari or an Alaskan adventure. And read great stories of outdoor adventures. I began to lose interest in reading them when the editors decided that article after article on how to hunt whitetails or catch bass, illustrated with photos, sold better than those great adventure stories and beautiful paintings. Now, that's about all you see, just how-to stuff, now often illustrated with poorly done computer generated "art".
Wayne SW/MO Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Fur, fish and game was another that I read. I agree they "Ain't what he used to be" and I don't read them anymore for the same reason. I still have a Lucas on Bass Fishing in paperback. He went into great detail about how even the smallest change in structure could hold bass. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
