Wayne SW/MO Posted June 28, 2012 Posted June 28, 2012 Yakfly I put in a lot of powered attic fans as an electrician, but I used turbines on my house. Like F & F said, you want soffit vents, no end gable vents, and enough turbines to get a good timely exchange. On a hot day you can feel the air been drawn through the soffit vents, it's that noticeable. I assume you can still get with cold weather blocks, but if not it isn't that hard to cover them in cold weather. The thing about soffit vents is that wind won't blow through them, like it will gable vents. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Members kirbydog Posted July 1, 2012 Members Posted July 1, 2012 The best and least expensive (bang for your buck) thing you can do is add more insullation in your attic. Cooler in the summer, warmer in the winter.
Midwest troutbum Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Actually the shingle color is an interesting one. While working in Florida after Hurricane Charley I noticed a shingled roof that had been painted with the silver slurry/sealer stuff. The owner was there and he commented on the fact that it did indeed make quite a difference in his cost for AC. Don't know if he had any data to back it up but always thought it made sense. The data is out there.. just talk to a reputable commercial roofing company..most large scale commercial roofs are going to white or silver.
