Wayne SW/MO Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 I think they're wasting their money and time. I don't what they want to gain other then an easier fish to catch. I've caught cutts out west and with the exception of some good size Lahontan's they aren't the equal of rainbows and browns. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

They already stock them there so I think this study is to see if they can just stick some eggs in the river and they will survive, so ultimately it would save money. Gavin Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 It would be pretty cool to have a self-sustaining cutthroat population on the Norfork. I'm sure they will reproduce, but the outlook for sustainability isnt good given all the harvest pressure on that tailwater.
Ham Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 Silly ole Cutts seem to be bug eaters only. Maybe the NFOW has more consistant bug hatches that will help the Cutts thrive. The Cutts don't seem to be doing all that well on the White considering that they stock more Cutts than Browns, but you catch a lot more Browns than Cutts. Not sure about the white because I rarely fish it. I am told that they are a strain of snake river cutts. They grow big and love to jump. This is my favorite time of year to fish them, they are stacked up in the hard water, and like Wayne says, easy to catch. I have caught a couple dozen fish between 3 and 5.5 lbs.

I catch all the bows and browns I want right here, but it's fun to see a different fish from time to time. The only one in my family who has caught a cutt is my 8 year old at dry run creek, and I'm jealous.
