stlfisher Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 We do so your saying that we should force people to pay to use something that should be free? Don't you and I do that when we pay for a fishing license? We both use the same free resource. Make it so kids don't need a license to float. Seems reasonable to me. I am not out to license everything and everyone person that uses a river, but floater's are a large enough group that impact the streams that a small fee should be doable. I don't mind paying for what I use.

stlfisher Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Correct and you wouldn't pay twice. The fisherman who float wouldn't be wammied twice. Think of it as a fishing/floating license. You buy one you get the other. The only ones who would currenlty have to pay would be the floaters that don't posses a fishing license. No additonal fees to any fisherman or others already paying for a license.
Wayne SW/MO Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 Works every time, throw money at something, problem solved. Who's going to have to buy these license, the once a year floater who wants to experience a public river? Are you going to charge more for non-residents? Why should the people pay for cleaning up trash on the rivers when they don't anywhere else? In Missouri a 1/8th cent tax pays for accesses. The fishing and hunting license aren't for law enforcement, but for management primarily and we all ready have an agency that is suppose to manage our natural resources. If they do parks, why not rivers? I have always felt, and still do that first you have to limit the number of floaters to something reasonable on some rivers. Second, whether it is game law violations or criminal activities on the waters nothing is going to change a lot with just a few LEO's, whereabouts known, enforcing laws. Other states use their recruits to overwhelm areas with patrol. Missouri could probably put to good use recruits and retired LEO's to swoop in and make life miserable for some unsuspecting souls bent on spoiling every ones float on busy weekends. It wouldn't take long until word got out. They do it at other times with DUI blockades and extra patrolman on holidays. The danger that is always present on public roads shouldn't be present on rivers with half naked people. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
stlfisher Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 A person who wants to fish once a year needs a license so I would say yeah they need a license. We can have free floating days like we do for fishing. I can't wait to fish that weekend. j/k. People over 16 need a license. Non residents pay more....you can get a one day or multiple day license if out of state. Again just mirror the fishing license fee's so it is fair. And I don't mind the party floaters really and I don't want to kick anyone off the streams. I don't want to tell them how they should enjoy the river. I just think if I pay a little for a public resource that I use and I have an impact on that resource...then they should probably pay a little too. And the expense shouldn't be an issue. It takes more in gas money on one trip than a yearly license is worth.
Wayne SW/MO Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 We don't pay extra for law enforcement increases at football games, concerts, fairs, and a lot of things that are primarily seasonal, so why for busy weekends on the rivers? What will these stewards do during the winter, or for that fact on a Monday in April? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Feathers and Fins Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 When I lived in Cali they put in place a "Forestry Adventure Pass" anyone who went into them had to buy it "25$" it was for upkeep of the roads, streams and enforcement. I hated it but bought it, I never saw its benifits but i left Cali just a year after. I called my Dad today and a few friends and they said IT DID make differance. I do think maybe something like that might work. I still have concerns about how and who administers and enforces it though. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Justin Spencer Posted July 9, 2012 Posted July 9, 2012 FIrst of all I think we all know a floating license is not coming any time soon. As far as I know they don't charge entrance fees to visit national parks and I think it is a bad idea to charge to go to these public places as many people simply can't afford it. I would be for a $1 fee on each rental long before a license for everyone that wants to float. Think of the paperwork, enforcement issues, etc. All of the issues relating to the craziness on rivers needs to be dealt with on the local level. I believe the elk has harsher penalties for nudity than other areas, or at least they supposedly enforce it more. Nothing is going to happen on a state level so it must be taken to county commisioners, and local governments. If some of you are serious about getting changes made start taking these ideas to the politicians and talk to law enforcement, I don't think you will get very far however, because you are in the minority. If the majority of people really wanted to use the rivers for a natural outdoor experience, I wouldn't be sitting on my couch watching the Griefs on Sundays in October. In this democratic society majority rules. What will these stewards do during the winter, or for that fact on a Monday in April? Your totally missing the point, but off course you pay extra for those things. They are built into your ticket! All security is not from public funds already payed by you. And I am not even talking about increased security as that is a difficult if not impossible task. However, the funds could be used to clean up our streams and improve the habitat around the state. It is more about keeping the rivers healthy and repairing the damage we do. Everyone that uses the river has an impact and the biggest user's should help to limit the impact as much as reasonably possible. It is not any more sinister than that. And Justin is right it is not going to happen. It is sad we even have to discuss it.
