Members shootermedic816 Posted August 6, 2012 Members Posted August 6, 2012 Caught my first trout on the fly this last week! I am HOOKED pun definitely intended!!!! Was fishing the Big Thompson River in Estes Park, Colorado and hooked into a 11" Brown! Caught him on a Jujubee Midge Blue #20, can't wait to do some more fly fishing! -Jonathan AKA ShooterMedic816
laker67 Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Congrats on that first fly caught trout. I can still remember my first caught 42 years ago. Caught from the high bank hole at bssp on a brown wooly worm.
stlfisher Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Yep, no turning back now. Just remember there is always a valid excuse for another fly rod...no matter what.
dennis boatman Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 My first, was about 45 years ago, Bishop Creek in California, and a Royal Coachman...small rainbow...actually fished the same hole a few weeks ago and caught a small rainbow and a few nice Browns... A strike indicator is just a bobber...
moguy1973 Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 My first was probably 25 years ago using spinning gear and a float with a #18 renegade on the end of the line at Montauk. Wasn't long after that I started using a fly rod to do the same thing. -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
ness Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 Hey Jonathon, Congratulations! Where on the Big Thompson were you? We were out there last week too, but I avoided BT in the park due to the road construction over there. John
Members shootermedic816 Posted August 7, 2012 Author Members Posted August 7, 2012 Ness, We stayed in Estes in a condo off of South St. Vrain Ave. Fished from below the dam of Lake Estes all the way down to Sleepy Hollow Park outside of Loveland. We stayed out of the park too because of the construction... -Jonathan AKA ShooterMedic816
Members jgentile Posted August 23, 2012 Members Posted August 23, 2012 Grats Shooter! There is only one thing better than catching a fish on a fly and that is catching one on a fly you tied yourself. Me thinks a vise and some mats are in your future this Winter. Tight lines, Joe
