powerdive Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Thanks, rps. I started it...all in good fun. Yes, bass are great fighters. And aggressive feeders. I just don't see the challenge in catching 40 or 50 runts a day, then crowing about those two unkept keepers. Note Mr. Babler's break-offs on big walleyes. You get a big one up near the boat someday, Quillback, I'll bet you'll come around.
kwall Posted August 25, 2012 Posted August 25, 2012 Yep, think y'all making me want to go to TR and find a few walleyes -- have never fished there is this a good time of year to fish the points around the dam?
Sam Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 P.D., when trolling a deep-running plug, the way I know I've got a walleye on is that it feels like the lure got stuck in the mud. Yep, just soft mud. I'll shut the motor down, keep tension on the line, and then maybe feel a little wiggle on the rod tip. "Hey, I'm not hung up - that's a FISH." On the way in a walleye puts up a good fight, then close to the boat they get downright resentful. It ends up with a real beside-the-boat rodeo because you sure can't "lip" a walleye. Pointy teeth, gill-cover fangs, and a plug with two treble hooks all tangled up in a net and attached to a long, strong, thrashing fish end up in the bottom of my boat and it takes a while to get things straightened out and get back to fishing. I'm not complaining one bit about the way walleyes fight.
kwall Posted August 26, 2012 Posted August 26, 2012 Sam your the man !! been in that situations many times jumping around in my Lund dodging those tasty critters ---I just gotta' get over to try TR
Members CMF Posted August 27, 2012 Members Posted August 27, 2012 Bull Shoals and Beaver are much better walleye lakes.......just sayin.....
kwall Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 CMF, why is that? I would think that one being up stream and one down stream that the eye fishing might be pretty good on TR -- I like BSL for the size for sure and lots of boaters on Beaver and sure TR has more than its share this time of year too, just thought TR might be worth a try, seeing that some have been getting caught , it would be a 3hr drive for me and any help deffinatly is appreciated --
Ron Burgundy Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 Kwall the thing u have to remember when reading some of the reports about TR walleye from guys like RPS, Powerdive, Bullitt and so on, these guys have put many many hours into searching for TR eyes and have been rewarded very well. If u are going to drive 3 hrs it only makes sense that Bull Shoals is the place that will be worth your efforts with the price of gas and everything else invoved in catching a fish......TR is a 30 minute drive for me and BS is an hour and a half drive and with limted trips and time to fish I say screw with "fishing" I go catching on BS. Gone but not forgotten Martin Ford
rps Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 I must admit, if I were to live on BS, I could post more impressive reports and more impressive pictures more often, I do not live there, I will envy those who do and report what I find here.
Hunter91 Posted August 28, 2012 Posted August 28, 2012 That would be a shame if you lived on BS, RPS. Who would teach us how to consistantly catch TR walleyes? :-)
