Smalliebigs Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 rynofasho, you will be happy to know that all of the houses in Terre du Lac are on are own sewer system.....there are no septic systems here, it is all pumped out to a water treatment basin. the water in our lakes are some of the cleanest you will find for a developed property of it's size. We have our own police force and fire department. as exiledguide said some lakes are better than others.....my dad and i sink a tree a year in his lake, which can be a big under taking....i almost sunk his pontoon boat a couple of years back with a very big cedar...their lake is pretty deep so it hides structure from all of the amature hour, bankbangers who are just looking for meat. I catch very nice fish from Capri,Shane and Marseilles but, most don't as it can be tough
Members Rynofasho Posted August 21, 2012 Author Members Posted August 21, 2012 Thank you, Smalliebigs. I suppose I should ask you one more question then -- I'm looking to pick up a small boat -- I found one in my price range that has front and rear trolling motors but no outboard. With that said, will I be able to find bass in the smaller lakes, as I'm not sure some of the larger lakes would be all that great on a boat with no outboard. . .? I know there are several likes with 10hp limits and some that don't allow outboards at all. I believe I'll be picking up the property over the weekend but I don't want to get the boat if it wouldn't make a good boat for the lakes.
Smalliebigs Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 i'm pretty sure you can only put your boat in the five larger lakes, Shane the one we have a very nice lot on which is 231 acres, Capri which is 240 acres approx, Marseilles which is 81 acres, Carmel which is about 110 acres and La Fette which is about 70 acres. The rest of the lakes or ponds can be fished only from the dams only from what I thought??? I could be way wrong on that though, they range from 5 acres to about 20 not all that big. A perfect rig for any lake there is a 16 foot jon boat with a 9.9 hp with atrolling motor IMO.The best thing about Terre Du Lac is we have a Country club, although it's not fancy we have an 18 hole course that has a great track with killer views and lots of mature trees with a 9 hole course that isn't Agusta National but is very tight and offers a challenge, all of this with in less than an hour from my house in Kirkwood. There are alot of older people there but, most are some of the coolest people I have ever met. I use the locale as a starting point to venture out to all the ozark streams I like as well and there are many very close....we have an access on the upper Big river in the nieghborhood....it's an easy going slow pace area thats good for kids...thats why we just bought a lot....the problem is the lake i'm on the average house would be worth $300,000 to $400,000, so there is a bit of pressure to build a pretty nice house....not sure if we have the jack right now to take that on. My wife an I will more than likely keep are lot and will be buying a river property if we can find the right spot on the right river??? We sold a nice place on the Meramec 2 years ago in Bourbon, one of the most scenic spots on that river but, the ajacent landowners and outfitters drove us away from our paradise. the grass always seems to be greener....sometimes I sit up at night kicking myself for selling that cabin and land but, we will someday be on a river again as it is my wife's and my dream....somewhere......health issues and children beeing born made us make some rash decisions.
jdmidwest Posted August 21, 2012 Posted August 21, 2012 We put kayaks in the smaller lakes without any problems. You could drop a small Jon in most of them too. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Members dans Posted August 21, 2012 Members Posted August 21, 2012 I've owned property in TDL for 20yrs. The bass fishing is slow due to the water clarity. The larger lakes Shayne,Capri,Marseilles and Lafitte rival Clearwater in how clear the water is. Panfish fishing can be real good at times.I've caught legitamite 1lb bluegills there! Now here's the downside. Unimproved lots can be bought for around $1000. Assesments are $220 a year. Boat sticker $30(over 150hp $ 50). Any boat with a motor over 9.9hp needs watercraft insurance. Dues are due by may 1st every year. Being that this a private lake community some lakefront home owners feed the fish and consequently think they own them!! I've been cursed at and yelled more than once for taking thier fish!! hope this helps
Members Rynofasho Posted August 21, 2012 Author Members Posted August 21, 2012 I don't think that clear water would really be a deterrent for me, it just sounds like you'll have to fish a bit deeper. Anyone do any catfishing out there?
Members Rynofasho Posted August 21, 2012 Author Members Posted August 21, 2012 And I guess lastly, any tips for fishing any of the lakes? It sounds like I'll need a fish finder for sure as the structure isn't really visible. You throw a lot of crankbaits? Deep run spinnerbaits or maybe try some dropshotting around submerged structure?

They have their own Police and Fire Depts. The water patrol is the Police sitting on the dams telling you to pull over to him. All things considered, they keep alot of the BS out that normally runs rampant in that county out of the subdivision. I do like the fish feeders, I have run across them too. And a river runs thru it also. One of our accesses to the Big River. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
