Hammond To Sunburst Quick Trip Report 8-24-12

I got a shuttle from one of Justin's staff at Sunburst. We put in at Hammond and took out back to Sunburst.

It was mainly a float trip with my wife, but I did have to bring four rods and a full tackle bag.

I ended up with 27 fish brought to hand. Nice smallies on WTD Topwater and almost everything else on a Zig Jig.

All the Rainbows I caught were beautiful and strong. I had one about 18 inches. I also saw about a dozen really big Brown trout. I haven't caught a NFOW brown yet. I again was impressed with the trout. It isn't a numbers trip like Taneycomo or the White River near home. But the fish are all really nice sized and colored up.

I saw a lot of smallies that wouldn't eat for me.

This is 50 year low water levels and I still had zero dragging issues.

Sound like a great trip! 18" bows are scarce there...but its the feature fish. Browns......are hard to come by mid-day...and most live downstream of Blair Bridge. Always some good ones up above though. Hope to make it down to Sunburst later this year and float from Sunburst down to Justin & Amy's new place above Dawt...Pretty hard to avoid catching a brown trout on that stretch. Thanks for the report.

ssshhhhhhhh, its time for things to slow down so I can go fishing. Glad you had a good trip, nice that we got some cloud cover.

Plus you get extras like the mink on a mid stream rock eating a crawfish, muskrat, bald eagles, and the ever present Kingfishers.

I did have a double on my Topwater, but one pulled off. I also have a giant Brown flash on a pretty decent Rainbow I was fighting.

I'm starting to dial in on locations that work for me. We floated the 12 miles in 7 hours. That's about 5 hours shorter than normal for a float of that length when I'm fishing.

Really guys that like to fish for trout owe it themselves to fish NFOW some.

Seems like a ton of mink around this year, looks like Amy is getting a new mink coat for Christmas, or maybe just some mink earmuffs.
