jdmidwest Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Our little buddies from Texas have invaded my space, digging up all of those Jap Beetle grubs that have also invaded. I have been seeing them on the game cam lately. When I almost twisted an ankle the other night in one of their hole, I decided it was time to do something. Research on the net revealed that they do not respond to bait traps. The only way to catch them is to funnel them into a trap. They have poor eyesight and wander along smelling for grubs and worms, You build a little fence to guide them into a trap. Sat. while shopping, I came across some cheap gutter guard at Big Lots. 20' roll for $2.50. Picked up some long bamboo skewers in the BBQ section to use for posts for another $1.50. I now have a 40' funnel to guide the little buggers into a live trap I already had. It has been out for a few nights without any luck. I reset in an area they worked last night in hopes that I will have better luck. Here you go Justin. Chief Grey Bear Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Actually, they are from South and Central America. Nice work on the trap. Use caution when handling them. They are known carriers of leprosy. jdmidwest Posted September 4, 2012 Author Posted September 4, 2012 I am not quite sure they carry leprosy, I think they just use them as lab rats as incubators for the disease. I don't think they carry it in the wild. I really don't plan on handling them much. I have read when scared they will spray a putrid runny diarrhea at you. I am not going to play around with them, just eliminate. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
jdmidwest Posted September 5, 2012 Author Posted September 5, 2012 Lets have it, I am curious. Have you ate one? "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson

BilletHead Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 Andrew Zimmer on bazarre foods America just ate one on one of his shows. In Florida, he was with some folks who called themselves "Crackers" . They like to live off food they gather themselves. They also cooked squirrel, heads on and ate the brains. My grandmother when she was alive gave me grief for head shooting the tree rats as she liked the brains. I also have a freind who likes the brains. So far not for me but maybe someday. I now eat my own wild duck rare which I never thought I would ever do, BilletHead "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" jdmidwest Posted September 5, 2012 Author Posted September 5, 2012 I have eat possum and coon, BBQ'd, its greasy. I have never tried groundhogs, but they are a clean animal and would probably be good eatin. I wonder what the flesh looks like on a dillo? jdmidwest Posted September 5, 2012 Author Posted September 5, 2012 http://www.google.co...biw=960&bih=455 Take your pick. Ok, I will sterilize the trap if I catch one. Gonna have to save it for Gavin, I think he is wanting to try a recipe. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
