Tornado Alley Activated Tonight

Reporting from deep in the bunker off the hard line.

Multiple storms are being tracked with rotation. Black as night outside and temp has dropped 25 degrees. Fortunately, it is going south of me.

Why can't we just get a nice gentle rain?

Been watching it build all afternoon up north in the Perryville area. Came home and sowed some clover and alfalfa for the bees. It was still and hot, very muggy. Getting some wind and a nice rain.

Pounds of rain?

Second time in a week the sirens have wailed thru here. Storm blew threw without any reported tornado's this time. Several were spotted down south last Friday.

It got real windy and dark in Forsyth this afternoon. It pounded rain for a short time, nothing lasting.

we had about an inch of rain and 10 inches of thunder, of course the sirens went off. A summer time thuder storm and the NWS(govt), makes people think it is the end of the world.

Pounds of rain?

No pounds of honey this year, only a few pounds stored in the main hive. Bees have been on an IV for the last 4 weeks and in survival mode, I have been feeding sugar water.

I was really worried yesterday, I opened the hive for an inspection and did not find any capped brood. Capped brood is backup bees in cocoons waiting to transform into adults. There was some new young larva and eggs and lots of fresh pollen. I called a fellow beekeeper and he calmed me down, he was seeing the same thing in many of his 200+ hives. That last dry spell kept anything from blooming, which meant no pollen. They need pollen to feed the young developing bee larva. Production shut down till the rain started Friday. I am only shooting for enough bees to cluster and get thru the winter. If they make it, they should be a strong bunch to takeoff next spring.

Things have greened up and started blooming as soon as the rain fell. 1 in 3 bees coming into the hive has been carrying pollen, the others are carrying water or nectar. They need water to cool the hive on these hot days. After this storm passes, cooler weather will follow and maybe some honey stores with it.

I picked up over an inch tonight so far, more coming down.

Tornado Alley activated again tonight, out west and heading this way again....

Our farm got chewed up pretty good again last night, trees topped, board fences lain over, power out all over the area. I was out estimating storm damage this afternoon in the Marble Hill area that got hit last night. Mostly straight line winds this time.

JD, I was in Joplin this afternoon when they came through. Ive been through just about everything you can imagine as far as natural disaster. I have never been so unsettled as I was today by the sound of Sirens going off. It was very creepy and the hair on my neck was standing up.

We have never been hammered like Joplin, but in the past 10 years I have seen more tornado's develop in this area than we have seen in the past 50 years. The one that went thru last Feb just north of the house went on to do Joplin like damage in Illinois as it built up. 3 rotation storm tracks last night within 50 miles, another one pretty close last Friday. This area has something that changed the ways that storms intensify lately. And they settle in and take hold for a week or so before they blow out.
