Mark Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Once again, I believe Al has hit the nail on the head with each party's stance on the outdoors. I doubt if either Obama or Romney knows, cares, or will do much of anything about fishing, hunting, or other outdoor activities. Of course they will say whatever a particular audience at the time wants to hear. If asked, I'm sure both are pro fishing, pro hunting, pro environment, pro whatever you want them to be pro for!!
Tim Smith Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 Al is also correct that the environmental angle is probably a big difference...although they don't talk about it much here. Obama is friendlier to the EPA and clean water translates to more and better fish.
jeb Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 I think you guys have settled in to the fact that you're not going to change anyone's mind here and it shows... the last topic that could have gone the way of the trash can didn't and neither is this one. I congrats you all! Carry on. I'm confused, Phil. I, like others here I'm sure, tend to not post in these political threads out of respect for your pinned request to not start or participate in any political or GW threads. I figure they're going to get nuked and the thread starter put on vacation for a while. But then I see this were you say it's okay. Can you please define this more for me? I'm sure if more folks didn't feel compelled to follow the rules here, these discussions would be a lot more spirited! John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha
Mark Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Come on, Jeb. THis is an appropriate venue for this topic. No one has diverted the discussion to further candidate or the others political agenda beyond conservation, environment, or outdoor recreation.

Jeb, I'm a little surprised at the latitude here as well, but I guess if you look at it from Phil's perspective it's not hard to understand. It's in the interest of the forum to have the freedom to talk about any topic the members want to talk about. It's not in the forum's interest for the members to tear at each other like deranged chimpanzees. There are legal issues around slander and Phil has to keep that under control. I've talked to Phil about this and he has made it clear that the "rule" is to behave in a civil manner. Politics and climate change get special scrutiny because they tend to run toward controversy, but in the interest of free speech Phil would prefer not to delete those threads...IF THEY CAN STAY CIVIL. The tendency toward personal attacks and vitriol makes that difficult here.

It becomes difficult to see around the lens of bias (both sides) these days, especially when each candidate is virtually willing to say or do anything to ensure his victory. I don't think either candidate cares much about the environment, and I'd be willing to bet a not-unhealthy sum of money that neither of them has ever touched a fishing pole when a camera wasn't involved. Regardless of your political skew, I'll take 5 guys willing to roll up their sleeves and actually do something over 20 guys who will scoot up to the computer and vigorously talk about doing something anyday.

I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt and I have been proven wrong on more than one occasion is regards to letting topics like this continue. Most of us know we aren't going to change minds here but may be we can do our best to inform without bias and at least the last few political topics have done just that. I understand why you're confused... I draw a line and then allow it to be crossed. Not defending myself, just trying to explain my actions, which I'm having a hard time doing it seems. Man, it sure is a beautiful day!!

They are not protected by the 1st amendment. So you have to depend on the posted rules to see what is allowed. And those are, at best, a bit confusing on this front.
