Brian K. Shaffer Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 ERA laundry detergent and an old sock with a hole it = clean cork BEFORE AFTER Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.
Dutch Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 I use Totally Awesome and my wife's tooth brush.
drew03cmc Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 Brian, you neat freak. I like dirty cork. It means I have done something right. Andy
cnr Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Clean cork handles are for newbies!!! I like my rods to look like they have been rode hard.
dave potts Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Something that is simple, fast and effective is a Mr Clean Magic Erasure. It also is good for removing scum from boats. Dave
Brian K. Shaffer Posted October 3, 2012 Author Posted October 3, 2012 Tooth brush is bad... too strong of bristles.. the bristles will pull out the filler that is common on all rods. (like a 30 yr old softened tooth brush..ok) .. but who keeps tooth brushes for 30 yrs ? Just once I wish a trout would wink at me! ozarkflyfisher@gmail.com I'm the guy wearing the same Simms longbilled hat for 10 years now.
ness Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 .. but who keeps tooth brushes for 30 yrs ? People that don't use them, that's who I'm with you -- I like my stuff clean John
Members Ryker Posted December 28, 2012 Members Posted December 28, 2012 Baking soda, warm water and an old/soft toothbrush work for me. I've heard of folks coating the cork with oil afterwards, but I've never gone that far.
Gavin Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Denatured Alchohol and a cotton ball does a great job when soap & water doesnt do the trick.
jdmidwest Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 I just use a little dawn and a toothbrush. I do the rod and the guides too while I am at it. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
