Justin Spencer Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 Ran out for a couple hours today in front of the campground and quickly caught 3 small bows (2 young of year). As I was fishing at the base of the island I looked down and realized I had been standing next to a hellbender. Grabbed the camera and took a few pics before he moved on. First one I have seen that hadn't been caught by a biologist. Easy to see why I haven't seen one before, looked just like some leaves or algae in the water. Caught one fish on pat's rubberlegs, one on a beadhead prince, one on a green caddis, like we say it's the drift more than the fly. I then put on a streamer and made my way back to the house getting one take and no fish, but finding a few good otter and beaver sets. The leaves are coming off pretty fast in this wind but boy is it pretty. The next week will probably be the peak on the NFoW, I guess we got enough late rain to make the colors really pop. The picture doesn't do it justice, but I took a picture off my deck anyway. Members Morgan F. Posted October 17, 2012 Members Posted October 17, 2012 Great Pics Justin! Thanks for sharing. I have never seen the hellbender...knew about them...just never looked it up. That's a pretty gnarly looking creature!
ColdWaterFshr Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 Good to see the Hellbender -- very cool! Yeah - I agree about the fall colors -- best I can remember in several years.
Brian Wise Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 My wife shot this the other day on a family float.....absolutely NO post processing was done to these photos other than her stitching them together. Gorgeous. My Youtube Channel
Ham Posted October 17, 2012 Posted October 17, 2012 I'm super jealous of you seeing the Hellbender. I didn't know NFOW had them. I'll spend more timelooking that fishing now. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
