Duck Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 Had a better day but still not good. In at Viney at 7 off at 1. Started in the back of a nice creek and fished out, 1 keeper, 1 short on Pop R, nothing on spinner bait. Fished some points with timber and wind,1 short on spinner bait. Went to another creek half way back and caught 4 shorts on drop shot. Quite a few boats for opening day of deer season. Water temp 58-61. 3 beautiful bald eagles. Good fishin to you all. Duck.
Jerry Rapp Posted November 11, 2012 Posted November 11, 2012 did you try a wiggle wart? They are eating it in Southeast MO. Same water temps basically. I thought it was too warm, but I am not very smart and just use what they bite. Bass have a brain the size of good sized corn kernel, don't let them out smart you.
Members op79 Posted November 12, 2012 Members Posted November 12, 2012 I put in big m sat at 7 tossed warts ( original) onchunck to gravel slopes got a few only one keeps moved on to spinner on wind blown points every one that looked good hard hitin but dinks non the less worked my way to 39 bridge and jack pot 20 plus on drop shot 4 in dingr watermelonseed and powerbait minnow pain in the foot to stay on the collums but worth it 4 keeps but my live well airater went out on my ancient basscat so i released them all nothin in back of bays on jig but i ain't as good with the jig as some of yawl surprised to see them still suspended in 20 to40 ft but the bite is getting better tossed the Alabama rig with smallest swim baits i could get they keep hitting the dummy ones could not hook up ran into an old timer and he suggested adding inline spinnear on the outsides and they would hit the swimbaits kudos to that fine man surefire idea got my first bamba bite 2 keepers 1-2 lbs each . Champ188 Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 Me and Donna did Big M on Sunday and found things about the same. We beat out a small derby limit (that being WE because running the trolling motor in gusts up to 40 mph has to count for something) but nothing to write home about. Donna caught all five keeps along with a fair number of shorts on 3/8-ounce jig on banks 45 degrees and steeper. Silly shad just will NOT seem to move into the creeks or pockets this fall, so no reason for the bass to do so either. Like op79 said, it's surprising to see them staying out in the big water suspended but by gosh that's where they are. Dang near every fish Donna caught was suspended 10-15 feet deep on nearly vertical rock. All of our keepers were spots except for one pretty good LM. As for the big dummy on the front, besides keeping his size 14 on the tm pedal, he was determined to force-feed em a spinner bait or buzz bait. Didn't work. Didn't care. Fun to watch Miss Donna whack em on the jig.
Jacob W Posted November 12, 2012 Posted November 12, 2012 Bored of deer hunting, I fished from the bank at big m while my wife walked around the park. After Champ and Donna waved and idled out of the marina, I dragged a c rig and football jig around and ended up catching 4 keepers, all spots, lots of small fish but no largemouths around. As Champ said, seems like all the shad are staying out deep and yet to move shallow.
Champ188 Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 Hey Jacob, small world. Glad me and Donna weren't holding hands or doing some other embarassing monkeyshine. We fished til about noon when the big cold front and rain hit then I sissied out and suggested we call it. Donna didn't put up much of a fight. Glad you caught some. That's a darn good point you were fishing. Some good smallmouth get up on that gravel in early spring. Been known to catch some myself off of it and the one on the other side by the marina docks, at least til the marina dude comes out and runs us off.
Donna G Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 Hey, Jacob. That is a good point. I like the one across the mouth of the pocket, too. Glad you caught 'em.
