straw hat Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 The wife and I fished Thu, Fri and Sat. on bluffs. Thurs and Sat around twin bridges and Fri near CC. Got about 20 or so crappie each day (at around 25 to 30') around twin bridges. 2 keeper walleye and several smaller cats (10 to 18"). The crappie were holding very tight to the bluffs. The bite was fairly agressive though. Saw several otters in the area and a flock of canvasbacks. Don't see many canvasbacks on Stockton usually. Water temp was 56 on Thu but down to 54 by Sat. Our trip to CC yeilded only 4 keeper crappie. a 2 lb walleye and a 17 1/2" largemouth (cpr). All were around 18 to 24' deep. Water temp was 52 there. The high point of that trip was when a big (50 lb?) beaver came swimming down the bank and swam within 5 foot of both me and the wife. He was so close I was afaid to breath or I would scare him off. A pleasant way to spend the weekend.

Dutch Posted November 26, 2012 Posted November 26, 2012 Glad you are keepin' after them pard. One of these days it'll be too cold to go for a while.
straw hat Posted November 26, 2012 Author Posted November 26, 2012 Glad you are keepin' after them pard. One of these days it'll be too cold to go for a while. Now "cold", that is a dirty 4 letter word. lol
junkman Posted November 27, 2012 Posted November 27, 2012 It could have been like my beaver interruptions this year and I had at least ten. They didn't even pay much attention to me. I even had to get up and shew them away from my lines. if I was still a meat eater they would not have fared so well.
straw hat Posted November 28, 2012 Author Posted November 28, 2012 Another trip and this time managed to squeek out a limit. They were a little shallower, 20 to 25 feet. I noticed one thing though, 97% of those crappie we have been catching have been black crappie. Very very few white crappie. Any white crappie have been under 7 inches and not many of those. That is very unusual for us with this fall bluff fishing. I was wondering, Dutch have you noticed the same thing? Maybe the white crappie went to Florida for the winter. lol Just can't find them.
Dutch Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 Nope I haven't. There were more blacks than whites but had several nice whites along with some eyes today. It looks like they are moving to their winter haunts. I never found any shallower fish though and the water temp had dropped some since the last time I was down that way.
straw hat Posted November 29, 2012 Author Posted November 29, 2012 It must just be the places I am fishing. Yea the temp had dropped to 52 where I was. I noticed the next few days are suppose to be relatively warm so maybe that temp drop will slow down some. Thanks for the response.
Members Targa Posted November 30, 2012 Members Posted November 30, 2012 I'd love to catch some crappie for a family fish fry, but I can't find them! Are you catching them on minnows at 24 feet along the river bluffs? Anywhere on the lake, like near the dam? Please help, my wife is getting desperate and we don't want that! Thanks! Targa
straw hat Posted November 30, 2012 Author Posted November 30, 2012 You hit it right on Targa!! Minnows at 24 foot on bluffs along the old river channel in the main lake. On normal years they are usually around 30 feet so don't be afraid to try deeper. They have also been holding real tight to the bluffs so don;t be afraid to "scrap" the bluffs with your minnows. Good luck to you and your wife.
