magicwormman Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 Great info Troy!! Thanks for sharing. Maybe you can put together a little guide, with tips for everyone. I know some guys aren't aware of using two different frenquencies of transducers to eliminate interference. I've also found out that transducers do wear out and will not show much detail. Also how to set their unit to better see fish and bait while dropshotting would help a lot of us.
Members NuB2TR Posted December 20, 2012 Members Posted December 20, 2012 Troy, this would also be a great place to post any upcoming seminars, classes, etc. BPS is/may be putting on regarding the use of electronics. I know its a popular topic and would be well received. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.
Troy Gregg Posted December 20, 2012 Author Posted December 20, 2012 Troy, this would also be a great place to post any upcoming seminars, classes, etc. BPS is/may be putting on regarding the use of electronics. I know its a popular topic and would be well received. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge. I appreciate the interest in this and I have been trying to think of ways to reach out to everyone in this area. I know there is a need for classes and instruction. Bass pro here in branson does not have any kind of conference room that is capable of more than half a dozen people. I would be interested in how many people might be interested in attending something say at a conference hall or something along those lines? Also what about a once a month seminar? Would this be a viable venue to pursue? Troy Gregg
magicwormman Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 Thanks for the respone Troy! I think one or two seminars would be sufficient for most of us. I do think a guide of some sort published on this site, regarding ping speeed, sensitivity, upper and lower depth settings, zoom, ect., would help a lot of fisherman who could not attend a seminar. I hear from several fisherman, who complain they have trouble setting their electronics to read fish and their bait when dropshotting. Many of them are considering new electronics, when they aren't getting the most out of their present electronics.
Football Head Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 A couple seminars along with a published guide would be great.
Dutch Posted December 21, 2012 Posted December 21, 2012 I don't see how seminars would work with all of the various units represented on this site. I have had from the very simple black and white units (X55) up to the HDS Gen I and LSS1 units. Most of what would be said wouldn't be applicable to people who don't own that generation of the product. For example ping speed was mentioned. On my lms units 75 on the console and 100 on the bow was the way I kept them. Now with the hds I have a ping of 19. Are you guys talking about a seminar on 2d sonar only?
Troy Gregg Posted December 21, 2012 Author Posted December 21, 2012 Thank you guys for all your input, I know several people from here all the way to little rock are looking for something along these lines thats why i had the the idea for a monthly type, they outreach is my obstacle. As far as the format goes, I know there are alot of guys with questions and all of you have different levels of experience, etc etc. With that being said there are alot misconceptions about 2d sonar and even more with the new side and down imaging. Therefor, I would have to taylor each seminar to those in attendance. or have one on one type and then do a follow up seminar on the more advanced functions of the units. I am adept at using all units, however Lowrance is what I choose, strictly by preference. All the units on today's market perform alike, just like a ford/chevy/dodge argument. When it comes down to it, all your doing is buying a name. This is why I am coming to everyone on here, help me develop a format that best serves the community. Just trying to bring everything to scope and into the light so I can hopefully prepare and execute properly. Again, Thank you everyone for your input Troy Gregg
Members trytofish Posted December 22, 2012 Members Posted December 22, 2012 If you don't know anything about mapping, where is the best place to start learning? I have recently bought 2hds touches w/ insight. never have done any mapping before but want to learn. rather slow minded, so would like to keep it simple.
Members troller Posted December 23, 2012 Members Posted December 23, 2012 Troy The HDS 5X Gen 1 I have mounted on the TM is a good unit for dropshotting but has updates available that from what I understand can't be downloaded unless you have another HDS (non X)on your network. Do the update(s) for this unit really improve performance or visuals and is there any way around the need for the network to update?Your seminar in some format suggestion could be a great help to a lot of us.
