Members rs00765605 Posted December 25, 2012 Members Posted December 25, 2012 Fished from Dawn til Dusk today between Aunts Creek and Piney. Twas pretty slow til late in the day, I managed to catch a few keepers drop shotting 50'-60'. But here is my big one of the day which came on the drop shot in 52 ft. Ended up keeping it cause it wouldn't go back down and I can't say I have a clue on how to fizz a catfish.
Quillback Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 Thanks for the report, you can substitute that catfish for a lump of coal in somebodies stocking who has been bad this year. Curious as to what your drop shot bait was, if you don't wanna tell because it's a secret that's OK, but I'm curious as the DS has not been working for me lately.
gitnby Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 I went out Sunday(8 AM-noon) and Monday morning (10AM-2) Fished within 2 miles of KC bridge. Had pretty good action on steep bluffs with timber. Probably 25 altogether, but only 4 keepers. All on 3/8 FB jig with twin tail chompers. worked jig down bluff walls, but most bites came when jig got down to 25-30'. cuts and swings was where they were holding.
Chief Grey Bear Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 I had plans to float yesterday. But when I got up and the therm said 23*, I stepped outside to break the water for the chickens and give them some feed, it was a little breezy. I promptly headed back in and planted myself on the couch for some fishing on TV! That lasted about an hour and I was out cutting down a Hickory to start drying and CD was hunting squirrels. I typically use a Luck-e-Strike Razor worm in one of several colors, but most often Watermelon red purple.

Sorry to sound like a newby, but I am in new territory here. I guess it is because of the depth and it is to do with the lack of oxygen compared to comming up? Is 'fizz' the same as 'burp'? Money is just ink and paper, worthless until it switches hands, and worthless again until the next transaction. Often times when you catch a bass from more than 30 ft, the quick change in pressure will cause the fish major problems. This can be alleviated by "fizzing" the fish. There are 2 different ways and there is usually a pretty good argument on which way is better. Basically, the air needs to be released from the swim bladder via hypodermic needle. This link below describes it better than I can. http://www.steveadamsfishing.com/bass-fishing/how-to-properly-fizz-a-bass/
Daryk Campbell Sr Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Good info. Glad I asked. As far as I know, with catfish, you can "massage" the belly area, kinda squeeze it and it will "burp". This is supposed to help protect it from the difference of air pressure. I usually do not fish at these depths, so I am fairly unfamiliar with this method.
