Justin92297 Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Got out to the springs today and over all had a pretty successful trip. My younger brother caught three nice bows on jig/bobber. My dad and I pulled in some very nice smallies on three inch tubes including one 4 pounder. As for fly fishing, my friend and I hooked up with a few fish on glo balls and wet nymphs but no fish landed. The water is crystal clear and for us deeper holes where the bottom isn't visible was most productive for smallmouth and trout. Very fun day I will be going back soon!
patfish Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Nice TR Justin. Glad you got into a few. Well done. Take any pics?
sms_alum Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Might want to re-think throwing tubes in the future on that part of the Meramec there are restrictions on soft pastics.
Justin92297 Posted December 29, 2012 Author Posted December 29, 2012 Yes I do have some pictures but I'm new on this forum and am still figuring out how to post them. Also, I should have thought about that soft plastics rule I was just really excited to see all those big smallies swimming around I completly forgot and tied on a tube. Next time I will use a different lure
Mitch f Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Yeah, they will bust you big time for that. During the summer they use binoculars from the hillside to spy "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Justin92297 Posted January 5, 2013 Author Posted January 5, 2013 Wow.. I did see some guys who work for the park driving around all the time watching people fish. They drove right by me while using the tube and just kept going. I guess they either didn't see or didn't want to get out of their car because of the cold haha
Greasy B Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 I believe the MDC agent who patrols the area drives a black truck. I ran across him several times at the HWY 8 access, seems like a nice young man. Skip from Green's canoe rental told me he really stepped up enforcement in the area, even busted the speedos dudes who got away poaching for years. I have always told those who float with me to cut off ther'e rubber baits before they cross under the 8 bridge when we're finishing a float on the river above. His father touches the Claw in spite of Kevin's warnings and breaks two legs just as a thunderstorm tears the house apart. Kevin runs away with the Claw. He becomes captain of the Greasy Bastard, a small ship carrying rubber goods between England and Burma. Michael Palin, Terry Jones, 1974
Haris122 Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Hey do you guys know if they sell any of the single-hook in-line spinners and other lures within Meramec Springs Park that you need during the C&R season or where you can get those if they don't. The closest spot I can find any is my local walmarts, but I feel like I'd want a larger size one than the ones they're offering there with the single hooks.
Justin92297 Posted January 10, 2013 Author Posted January 10, 2013 I know there is a shop there but it may be closed for winter. I got some single hook rooster tails from bass pro and dick sporting goods though. Bps had the best selection.

You can buy them with the trebles on them and clip off two.
