abkeenan Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 What weight and hook size you guys use on your crappie jig heads? I 90% of the time just use a lead head with swimmin' minnow on it and was thinking of buying in bulk as I tend to lose A LOT of them in the trees. Before I buy 50-100 of them I'd like to get some thoughts. I see some good deals on eBay for some with sickle hooks.
Fishrman Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 Found a really good combo last year, Cherokee jig heads 1/16 bass pro squirming squirt tube clear with silver flake. Jig head is weedless and works great.
Dutch Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 I use #4 and #2 hooks depending on the size of the head. My heads are 1/32 to 1/2 depending on the bait and the depth.
exiledguide Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 I buy jigs on EBay from TCI fishing lures in Florida. I like the sickle hooks and he makes about any size hook and weight combo you want. I don't know if his jigs are better but I think they are and thats what counts. I like 1/32 oz on a size 6,4 or2 red sickle hook and I throw Gulp alive fish fry chartruse color in the original size about 1 1/2" for crappie but everything jas been caught on it since I started using it a few years ago that and 1/32 and 1/16 oz road runners are about all I use anymore.

dwiebenga Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 I agree with Exiled! Great dealer on ebay! Affordable too
abkeenan Posted January 3, 2013 Author Posted January 3, 2013 Ended up buying 100ct 1/16oz minnow head with #4 matzuo sickle hook and 100ct 1/32oz minnow head with #6 sickle hook all for about $20. I heard lots of guys liking the sickle hooks for crappie so I went with those. $20 for 200 jigs seemed like a good deal to me.

troutgnat Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 I've got a do-it mold for 1/16th oz round head and pour my own usually on #4's. Then I powder paint the heads and tie my own. I have my favorite tube bodies for the brush and when I get tired of losing my pretty hand tied ones! Here's "Half-Nude" and "Dirty Laundry", two of my personal favorites.
