Kansas Fly Fisher Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 I agree with all that's been said. 1 - this is a GREAT site! 2 - there is some drama, but that keeps it interesting, and if I don't like it, I just don't read it. 3 - Comedy relief is good! After all, laughter IS the best medicine. Again, if it's not up my alley, I just move on. 4 - The fishing reports, and pictures, are very informative and fun to read. I enjoy seeing, and reading, other peoples success stories. It makes the time between my trips down there go a little easier. 5 - I feel I've made a lot of new friends thru this forum, some I've met and fished with, some I've just talked to. Phil, you're doing a great job with this forum and I would hate to see it changed in a negative way . . . censorship. The nice thing about this layout is you can pick and choose what is right for you. Just my two cents John Born to Fish, Forced to Work KSMEDIC.COM
Members flyfish4life Posted November 1, 2006 Members Posted November 1, 2006 I for one believe this to be a great site. It is very informative and at the same time can be quite entertaining. Keep up the GREAT WORK Phil. Jeremy
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted November 1, 2006 Root Admin Posted November 1, 2006 I was just explaining this topic to Marsha. I came up with a thought and she followed with an analogy. When someone makes a remark like, "I caught this fish on a secret fly" or gives a report like, "I caught a limit of crappie on Table Rock last week", it's not a reflection on the forum as much as a reflection on the poster. The forum is like a coffee shop with a bunch of old guys sitting eating donuts and drinking coffee in the morning. If one says something dumb, another doesn't get up and exclaim, "This stupid coffee shop!" Yea- this is a fat free, but not a fluff free forum... decaffinated!! Good Night!
duckydoty Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 I like the forum Phil and think its a great place to check out. On a bad day at work, its a little pleasure and motivation to make it through the day. I dont post any pictures of big fish--because I dont catch big ones. I would love to someday say "I caught a monster last night!" and be able to post a picture of it. I also enjoy seeing all the pictures of the big and little fish that are caught. With my schedule I'm lucky to make it down to Taney once a week on Wed. nights. Checking the reports from the weekends are great to see whats happening when I cant be there. I'm always telling my wife "Come see what (insert name) caught down at Taney" It's the next closest thing to being there. Great job on the forum and I have no complaints! davekeim Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 After all that, I see the perfect example of free speech. Good job Phil. I,ve always admired you since my first time there and have been at times somewhat envious. Don't change a thing. Did you see the Republicans pulled out their best weapon yesterday? John Kerry! Murdoc Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Phil don't change a thing!! I've trout fished all my life and being a part of this forum is one of the best things I've had to help me get to be a better fisherman. I've got to meet a lot of really good people and anything good makes ones life better. I like to treat this forum like I do the TV. If I don't find intrest in it I don't watch it. This is a great forum!! It's got a lot less drama in it than my house!! I've got three girls. Smiles are free http://rdpflyrods.com/
Quillback Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 It's a good site, I would like to see more posts (reports) on warm water fishing, especially Beaver lake and the area around NW Arkansas, but that's a wish, not a criticism of what's being posted. I guess I'll just have to get out and make my own reports.
Members jim murphy Posted November 1, 2006 Members Posted November 1, 2006 Phil, This forum is just fine. I have had a great time going back and forth with you on several topics. I have no hard feelings towards you and hopefully none towards me. Ozarkanglers.com has more diversity than any other, as well as covers more waters in our area. There is a wealth of information accessable here, and it is free. lbt, Posts on this forum are written in black and white. Everyone reads them in a different shade of grey, and of course there are those who just read between the lines. Everyone has different thoughts on the numerous subjects that are discussed on this forum. If you open a page to a topic and do not like what is being discussed, close it, and move on to the next. Some of the discussion topics are to dramatic you say, lbt? I have read a number of your posts on this forum, and they seemed pretty dramatic. Or was your intention just to stir the pot and see what kind of response you would get, little boy toy. Reality check, you only get out of it, what you put into it. Now, you are not getting what you want from this open forum, that so many are willing to contribute to and share their information, nor enough detailed information for your personal use, well with the attitude you have displayed in previous posts, why should they? One tends to get, what one deserves. Maybe, you have had everything handed to you on a silver platter and do not appreciate what is available to you. If you put forth a little effort, ask questions, and do a little research on your own, quite possibly you could come up with the information you are looking for. Show a little respect and you may find what you are looking for! jim
Members Growler Posted November 1, 2006 Members Posted November 1, 2006 I agree that Phil has an excellent forum here. BUT it is only a portal for what makes this site so good...the members. Some give more, some take more (sorry, I fall into the latter category). Either way, the exchange of knowledge on this site is far superior to any site I have been to. I remember the old days of Phil's reports. They were great. The best that could be found at the time. Now that the site has evolved into a true forum, I find the information being shared is much more diverse and timely. Phil himself mentioned he hasn't done that much fishing this year, and while I feel sorry for him, the information keeps coming and coming from people who do. My thanks...huge thanks to Phil for providing this venue for us. Also, my huge thanks to the members. Especially the faithful posters who keep me entertained everyday at work. Even though I don't get to fish as much as I want to, I can live those experiences vicariously through the reports. As for the drama and comedy? That comes from a passion we all share to fish, catch fish, and enjoy the experience to the fullest. Keep it coming My 2 cents G
loo10 Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Interesting topic. Well, I guess I've been guilty of all of it. I've been the comic relief. And I've had my butt jumped on because I offended someone, although accidentally. I've posted reports - good and bad. I've posted big fish pictures. I've given my 2 cents when nobody really gave a darn. I've hung out at my local fly shop and visited about what's been posted the previous evening. I've met some cool guys thru this post... Met a few pompous windbags too. Truth is...I like the forum. I like the variety. I like the give-and-take of the members who actually realize IT'S FISHING! I wouldn't change anything. Good fishing all. Life is short so smile, laugh, and fish all you can.
