Got out for 90 minutes late in the afternoon yesterday. Boated to the top of Trophy Run, below the MDC ramp below the dam. They were running maybe a half unit. I didn't want to chance going any higher due to shallow water and wanted to fish this stretch anyhow.

1/8th white jigs- they liked. Bites on almost every cast. Caught quite a few rainbows and 4 browns. No rainbows over 14 inches and the browns were 14-16 inches.

I threw a black/brown jig from Lookout down and caught more rainbows, same size, and a couple of browns.

Good fishing.

Sounds like the right time to be tossing jigs. I love using PJ's jigs and they do work well with my 'Lilley's Trout Rod' setup I might add.

Just curious, this past Fall when I was down I never ventured past Lookout and was wondering what it is like up towards the dam now that those boulders are in place. My boat drafts little water so I can get there most of the time but curious to know how much of the boulder surfaces are exposed during different levels of generation. Can they be detected easly when completely submerged? By detected I mean by the way the water would swirl/boil in their areas and not by the sound of a lower unit or the bottom of the boat hitting them!

I have to say "no" they can't be detected during low flow because I don't think you'll see the eddie they create until you're right on top of them.

You really need to know where they are so you can miss them. But this is only if they're running 25 - 35 mw of power (.5 to .75 units). Otherwise you'll go right over them without issue.

Thanks Phil. Good to know. I'll take a look at those pics you posted back when this work was being done if I can still find them. I seem to recall the boulders where placed pretty well in line but staggered out from the stream bank more toward the middle on each side. Which would make sense to have them in the water when it's 'low tide' and therefore seem more to the middle at 'high tide'.

Sounds like a good time Phil. The nuthouse beklow the dam at BSL isn't that far away. I will be unable to attend the madness for the first few days due to work, BUT somewere in the first part of Feb, I'll launch my boat at first light IF they run any water.
