Members Crooked Creek Angler Posted January 22, 2013 Members Posted January 22, 2013 From Springfield you are less than 2 hours away from Crooked Creek, which is some of the best smallmouth fishing you'll find. Feel free to contact me for details, (although I don't get on the forum all that often)...
Guest Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 the cast netters are worse than the giggers. IMO I watched a group cast netting below the dam on the Elk last summer. The tails were visibly poking out of the 5 gallon bucket. I told them it was illegal, but they started right back when I left

Chief Grey Bear Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 That sounds pretty dang good right now! Or spot gumbo.. You know as well as I do there ain't enough meat on those scrawny spots! That is why we always threw them back. Fish tacos - nothing better than sweet brownies! Gavin Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 No place else to fry em...Sr. & Jr. did a great job on those. Shells & Fish fried to order in peanut oil (18" skillet), add some fresh made mayo based cole slaw and your hot fried fish...Fish fried to order with some hush puppies works well too.
LittleRedFisherman Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Man, those look really good, making me want a midnight snack... There's nothing better than fried fish on the stream bank, (or ditch bank as we say here). I grew up fishing for flathead at night on the St. Francis, and let me tell ya, it's hard to beat fresh flathead fillets cooked in peanut oil, right out of the river!! There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
Gavin Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Figure this stupid thread is jacked enough already...might as well jack it furthur. WFT 2013 Highlights. Several smallmouth were caught. Mostly brown trout & rainbow though.
